Shaaqquan Aaron - SF- Rainer Beach - Seattle, WA
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:59:10 PM »
Shaqquan Aaron 6-6, 175lbs -SF - Rainier Beach High School - Seattle, WA
This may not be news news but we don't have a thread on him.
ESPN and the other sites list him among those we've given an offer to in the 2014 class, and he has a host of other high offers as well.
Apparently he transferred to Seattle from Mater Dei (CA) after his freshmen year of HS.

From a NW basketball scouting site on Dec 15, 2012 -
Shaqquan is a 4 Star Recruit who will be a huge factor for Ranier Beach this season.
Shaqquan sat out his Sophomore season because of eligibility problems, after transferring from prestigious Mater Dei high in California to Taft high, in the Los Angeles area.
Aaron was a 1st team all-state choice as a freshman in leading Mater Dei to the division 1 state title and compiling a remarkable 32-3 record.  Rivals ranks him as a highly touted 4 star recruit.  The high flyer has offers from such schools as Syracuse, UConn,  Arizona, UCLA,  St Johns and Washington.

Scout said he took an unofficial visit to Arizona in December, but other then that there's not much out there on his recruitment.
Anybody from the west coast (Ted?) familiar with him from his time at Mater Dei or know if we're still keeping an eye on him?

Shaqqan is a prototype 6'5 wing (tho maybe more of an SG than SF at the pro level, but as strong SF in college).  West Coast scouts are sky high on him - supposedly most upside of any prospect west of the Rockies.   Throw in he's a 4.0 student, he's a heckuva prospect.   Not locked into the west - situation is more important than location, he says.  Took a vist to Louisville a couple weeks a go, and as mentioned has been to Arizona.   UCLA is on him very hard as well - see him as a perfect replacement if Zach Lavine ends up one-and-done after next season.

FWIW, Scout.com doesn't list him as a St. Johns prospect, but Scout has been really iffy this past year in their hoops recruiting coverage (at least the west coast side of it), so we could be top 5 for the kid and they might not know.

Yes - he transferred from Mater Dei to Taft High school as a Sophomore (his 8th grade AAU coach, Jason Hart, had been named Taft's new head coach).  Yes, that the same Syracuse All America Jason Hart.   The Califonia Interscholastic Federation ruled he was transferring strictly for basketball purposes, and ruled he had to sit a year.

Scout's new updated top 100 for 2014 is out.  Shaqquan Aaron is their #34 overall prospect.   They don't list St. Johns as one of his "schools of innterest", but don't take that to heart.  Scout's reliability for hoops recruiting has been heading south rapidly for the last 6 months or so.   For instance, Scout doesn't even have a LISTING for Emmanuel Owootoah, let alone a ranking.   Not in 2013, or in 2014 (he reclassified to 2013 last month).  How does a guy getting looks from UCLA, St. Johns, Mizzou,  Texas, Memphis and Arizona  NOT even show up in your "recruit database"?  And they didn't list Rysheed as a UCLA prospect for 3 months after he first scheduled an official visit there?  They finally listed him two weeks after his postponed Official was completed, and more than 6 weeks after Zags reported his final 3 were St. Johns, Temple and UCLA.

Shaqquan would be terrific in the St. Johns scheme.

The same Jason Hart who created such an uproar in the 90's when he tried to transfer to Taft himself.

Considering we don't play this weekend we should be on the road.

Right?

Right?

Live period?  If so, for sure even if on the road means presence at local games (though Lav is clearly off duty).
