Semi interesting;

“@STJ_Basketball: DYK? #STJBB has a Top 25 SOS. But did you also know this about how some of our non-conf opponents are faring? http://lockerz.com/s/282383604

Even more-semi interesting stuff, ESPN Bracketology has UNC Ashe as a potential team playing the 1 Seed in the Midwest (as of 2/8/13)

They're in first place in their conference.  I saw a little bit of their game last night, they've gone on a nice run since beating us.

Those are boosting our SOS/RPI in a huge way!  Those teams are no longer considered "cupcakes" by anybody looking at our schedule and the Tourney committee.  We might not need to beat a Syracuse or Louisville to get in, but we will still need the numbers.  If we hold serve and get to 19 or 20, we will likely be in with our SOS/RPI.  NCAA also looks at late season performance and places more weight than early season losses.  In addition, lots of big schools have "signature losses". Even Kansas just had one to TCU.  It puts everybody on a more level playing field.  We just need to keep winning, regardless of who it is.  Season is shaping up well and I'm very happy with our direction regardless.

I'll add that since we have beaten UConn already, I'm a fan of theirs the rest of the way.  They are ineligible for the BET and NCAA's but can play spoiler the rest of the season and weed some teams out.  They still play Cincy twice, Georgetown and Nova.  Hopefully they help hand them some losses which can help us in the end.

It's also very dependent on how many of the favorites in the mid major conferences with their conference tournaments...if there are a bunch of upsets from teams who wouldn't have made it to the dance otherwise and the favorite in that conference gets an at large....teams like St. John's are the ones who feel that.  Root for the favorites in the mid major conferences, that'll help St. John's.

They need to keep winning, and a win from either Syracuse or Louisville would be enormous, while improbable.  They need to take the other game from ND, and beat Providence and Marquette.  Obviously they have to take out USF.  That would put them at 19-11, 11-7 BE record.  Take one in the BET and I think that would be enough.  Two would lock it in.  Again, shocker mid majors gaining automatic bids could change all that, but that's the way I see it.  Since the San Fransisco/Ashville debacle, they've done a good job of beating who they need to beat, Rutgers loss aside.

That Rutgers loss might be the one that really kills them.  That and the Villanova game.  An understable loss, but those two games go slightly differently and they could be 9-2 in conference right now.  Then again, they also could have lost to Depaul, Cincy, or Seton Hall if things went slightly differently, so it's no use talking about it.

ESPN is going to play this up as the last BET as we know it.  This year's tournament will receive more press than ever.

How ironic would it be for lowly SJU to show up at this one?

Forget the Bracketology watch.  This team participates in the best league tourney in NCAA hoops history.  This should be the only focus.

One of the last 4 out in the latest bracket. A win against Louisville would be huge, to say the least. http://espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology

We would be in according to Yahoo.  http://yhoo.it/11E7Djp

I dont think we will beat Louisville. Hopefully we will beat Providence and Usf and knock off Marquette or Pitt and a game in the BE tourny.

A few weeks back, talk of an NCAA bid was deemed ludicrous.  Now the talk is of what has to be done for it to happen.  We've come a long way in a very short time.

Pretty crazy we are being considered for the tournament.  I don't think this team has played like a tournament caliber team thus far.  It's time to start adding quality wins.  We have't beaten a marquee team yet.  This is the time of year we all thought teams would start to fear STJ.

From mock draft gathering today;

“@PSBasketball: From the Big East: The locks are L'ville, Syr., G'town Marquette and Pitt. The under considerations: Cincy, Nova, St. John's and Notre Dame”

Can't see how Cincy or ND are not locks as long as they do not tank.

Nova and us on bubble

Pitt is in better shape than both St Johns and Nova

You answered your own question sju89. But I agree, they would have to lose close to everyone of their remaining games.

St. Johns making the tournament is up to St. Johns

Win tonight and win against Providence and South Florida then just win one of Pitt Marquette and ND and I believe we are in

Lose tonight and you need Providence and South Florida plus two of the Pitt Marquette ND games

I still think to get off bubble you need a BET win

Unless you are a 5-6 seed you are not getting an easier game this year in BET

Currently we are 7th i think with UCONN ineligible

 I agree SJU 89  We can speculate all we want and the pundits can make their predictions. But, it is up to the players. Their fate is in their hands. We dont have to beat Louisville, but we need to win the games were supposed to a steal  a couple more.I dont think we will beat Louisville but think we can beat ND. Pitt and Marq.Of course we wont sweep those 3, but if we can get 2 out of 3 well be in good position. Hopefully Branch will be back and healthy for USF.

Huh?
“@jeffborzello: Projected conference title games so far...Kansas vs. K-State, St. John's vs. Gtown, San Diego State vs. UNLV, Oregon vs. UCLA.”

“@PSBasketball: NCAA's David Worlock now informs us of pairings for "Saturday'' conf title games. Big East = St. John's vs. G'town.”
