Syracuse Game Predictions
« on: February 08, 2013, 11:18:23 AM »
I know most of us have this chalked up as a loss.  But you know what, maybe we shock the world on Sunday.  Maybe Southerland doesn't have his eligibility restored.  Maybe our guys play their best game of the year in 2 days at the Carrier Dome.  Temple did it.  Why can't we?

68-64 SJU

Cuse, 72, SJU 65 consistent with ESPN prediction. BTW, he assumes Southerland not playing, but I bet he does.

St. John’s at Syracuse, 3 ET, ESPN: "The Red Storm has quietly authored a stretch that’s elevated it into Big East title contention. St. John’s is 7-4 after winning six of its past eight. That run includes wins against Notre Dame and UConn. Yes, the Johnnies are young, but Steve Lavin’s program has played with more poise in recent weeks (10th in the country with turnovers on 15.9 percent of its possessions). They’re getting better. They’re maturing. And they have one of the nation’s great defensive stoppers in freshman Chris Obekpa (4.4 blocks per game, second in the nation). Syracuse is not 100 percent. No James Southerland. DaJuan Coleman is out with a knee injury. But the Orange’s depth has helped it during this stretch. As the team was trying to shake a two-game losing streak, it found Jerami Grant, a freshman who scored 14 points in Monday’s win against Notre Dame. Cuse is still potent, even shorthanded."

SU - 72
SJ - 59

To beat the zone, we need to move around on offense, move the ball fast and make our jumpers.
SU doesn't have a team as strong as in recent years, but they are still the kind of team that will give us fits.

That said, they are not 100%, but we are NEVER 100%, so it evens out.

It would be a terrific accomplishment, and season defining win for Lavin and the kids if we could pull it off.
Let's hope that the crowd size, and Dome experience doesn't freak our guys out. We have not won there since Erick Barkley's freshman season. So, 14 years later, let's hope for a miracle.

I dont think the storm is bad up there and the old guy on news 12 just said it will move through here faster than expected.

I predict they play the game, Syracuse wins by 10 and Linds posts 15 posts as soon as the loss is in the books.

Hope I'm wrong on the last two counts.

Syracuse leads by 20 at half.  Harrison, Sampson and Obepka all declare for the D-League right then and there.  Led by Marco, SJU outscores SU 63-20 and all is well.

keys to the game:
1. hit our free throws
2. hit the 3
3. at least break even on the boards

we still lose but keep it close if we can accomplish above

Cuse: 73
STJ: 64

Pointer stopping that kid from penetrating will be a huge priority.  Giving up offensive rebounds will probably do us in but who knows with their short rotation.  Headed up from the city now for the big game tomorrow.

The only hope is that one or two of the Cuse kids hurt themselves getting the snow off their fancy ass SUVs.  No, wait, now I'm hearing that they have guys to do it for them. I hope they're smart enough to leave their NCAA parkas in their own SUVs.  Not a bad deal to ride in style right?  Meanwhile Sanchez gets to hop a chicken wagon.  Not much hope for an upset here but I'm sure we'll all spend the time and DVR Pebble Beach to help calm down after.

I'm not expecting a win, but I wouldn't be shocked if we do win. What I do expect is a close game. I bet we do our normal thing where we get out to an early lead, then give it all back.

We need to get all over Triche and Fair and hope MCW's shooting struggles continue.
