Noel injury last night can't help...

I don't think one spot going to make a huge difference in Jakarr's status.

No.. I meant seeing someone get injured like that and potentially derailing a pro career. Don't know the extent of Noel's injury but incidents like that can plant a seed in someone's mind. Get the cash because it can be taken away in an instant.

It is not about another spot in the draft if Noel's injury is as serious as it looks. But his injury highlights how quickly your future can change. If I am a college freshman and know I am getting drafted in the first round with a guaranteed contract I am going into the draft and set myself up for life. Why take a chance on a freak injury like Noels

It really does depend on where you're going though.  If you are a guaranteed lottery pick or will go in the top 20, then I don't think there is much to consider.  But if you are talking about late first round where you could possibly slip into the second round, I'd roll the dice.

These decisions are never based on one good game or bad game, rather a body of work and the ever important word, " potential".  That being said, It's pretty obvious that Sampson needs at least another year to work on his floor game and get stronger.

However, when it comes to kids coming out and entering the draft, nothing surprises me anymore. I'm tired of even speculating about it. Maybe he will, maybe he won't?  No one knows.

Point is, one bad game means nothing.

It's been my experience that the voice of reason isn't always the one that people listen to.  Especially when it comes to money and sports.  I hope he stays.  It looks like there are lots of areas he could improve on .. strength, range, handle, etc ...  How many StJ players have you thought should stay and didn't?

Objectively, he's going. The NBA drafts on potential, not on production. Troy Bell, Lawrence Moten, Marcus Hattan were all top performers and I don't think anyone of them were drafted first round.

Think about some of the clowns who have been drafted first round over the years, even recently. JaKar's potential and his tools are superior to so many who have been drafted and never heard from after three years.

Objectively, He's going NBA.

Think Troy bell went around 20th overall to the celtics I think. I'm sure the kid would remember.

I hope the NBA scouts were watching Jakarr last night.

Objectively, I don't see how he would be a first round pick this year.  And I love his game.  If he were to leave without a guarantee of being in the top 15-20 (because any guarantee after that point means you could fall to the second round IMO), then he is nuts.  Develop another year, maybe two, and he will be set for life if he is smart.

Jakarr is a project in the second round. He can't shoot. You can't shoot, you can't play in the league.

Jakarr is a project in the second round. He can't shoot. You can't shoot, you can't play in the league.

He has a decent midrange jumper when it is uncontested or if he has a size advantage over the defender.  Last night, several times he flashed into the lane, got the pass and turned for a jumper, only to find the defender in his face.  He either took a bad fadeaway or he baled out and passed it while in the air.  He will not, at this point, be able to get that shot off against any decent NBA defender.  Also, he cannot play down low with his back to the  basket.  Maybe he won't have to do that at the next level, but then he had better be able to knock down the jumper.

One difference between Jakarr and Moe is that Moe went straight up and was able to get his shot off against most opponents.  Jakarr has an edge as far as athleticism but his game is not as refined as Moe's was last year.

Moe could pass, rebound, handle, post up and shoot better than Jakarr. Moe also had great court awareness. It's not Jakarr's fault that one of our best plays is to have him shoot a 15 foot jumper. But he has horrendous form, he rushes it, and he often shoots it off balance. What's more, he never follows his shot. If you're an NBA player at the college level you should be dominating in at least one aspect of the game.

Being able to outplay Seton Hall, Depaul, Rutgers and the Uconn frontcourt doesn't make you a first round pick. He can get there, but these analysts need to be honest with him. Anyone telling him to go now us risking his career.

And for what?

He can't shoot? Really? Poison come on, he's shooting 45% from the field and 90% of his attempts are 15-18 foot jumpers. Harkless shot the exact same percentage last year and as you might recall he got the majority of his buckets inside. I'd actually argue Sampson's shooting is one of the pleasant surprises of the entire season.

Obekpa is a project, Sampson obviously needs work (how many 18/19 year olds don't) and to extend his range to be an NBA 3 but he's not exactly a project. We can all agree we better hope he comes back next year because without him and no Lawrence, we will be in BIG trouble.

Yesterday on Red Storm Report they had a little piece on Moe and Keady was asked when he thought Moe was ready to go.  He said after the Duke game when Moe had a prime time performance against a highly ranked team on the road.  With all due respect, Karr has yet to have that kind of breakout game, in fact he had a good game against the ville, but was swallowed up at times by their height, bulk and athleticism and he threw up some playground shots that didn't have a prayer.  Who knows, maybe he goes off for a  30-10 game against pitt, nd or marquette, and that'll be his signature game.  But if not I'd love to have him back next year.

Where did you get your 90% numbers from?  He goes to the rim quite a bit and a lot of his shots are closer than 15'. I don't think he's attempted, much less made, a 3 pointer this season.  If he's going to be a force in the NBA he needs to build up his body and work on extending his shooting range.  I'd love to see him do that here next year. ;)

I hope Kar is back next year, and I think he will be.
But I've never understood how a player "ruins" his career by coming out early.
Maybe they could get more job security or more money guaranteed by waiting a year or two, but if you're going to be good enough to have an nba career, it'll happen either way.   You either end up having the talent or not.

It's not like Omar's not in the nba because he came out early.   He's not in the nba because he could never shoot well enough to be an nba point guard.

Sort of disagree. There are those players who come out after freshman or sophomore year who play sparingly in the NBA their rookie years while they could've been getting 35 minutes a night leading their college teams and developing their games.

Sure there are great coaches in the NBA that can help develop them, but nothing helps the development of a player more than actually playing.
