yes, it's a weak draft and, yes, jakarr has a ton of nba potential.  but has anyone seen jakarr even being mentioned as a possibility in the top half of the second round?  other than that zags article, is there any indication that he is a potential (even late) first rounder this year?

ford, sheridan, goodman, nba draft express, etc. etc. - no one has him even on the board. by comparison, moe was a projected late first rounder at this point last year in a much stronger draft

Mo was even higher on some lists at this point last year.

“@BigEastMBB: Georgetown F Otto Porter (25.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg) is the 3/4 BIG EAST Player of the Week. St. John's F JaKarr Sampson is Rookie of the Week.”

He should be left off. He's not the top freshman.

I like Jakarr very much. I don't understand how he has a ton of NBA potential. I think he has NBA potential provided he improves his ball handling, shooting range, passing, defense and overall strength.

cant teach nba length, athleticism, bounce, instincts.  needs a better handle and shot, needs to mind the defensive glass a little better, and needs to add 25 pounds of muscle.

but i hear what you are saying, and it seems the blogging experts agree that he is not ready

I don't think there is a rational person on here that think JS is ready to go to the NBA.

How many 19 year olds are?  Not many. LeBron, Durant, and Kyrie are three recents that were no-brainers.

My point is that we all pretty much agree that he needs to stay but it doesn't matter what we think.  Every year 10-15 kids with no business entering the draft do just that.  Some get lucky, most don't.

As far as being on a national list for Freshman of the year, of course he should be on the list. BE rookie of the week 7 times.  Pretty sure only Carmelo Anthony has more. Pretty impressive for a kid playing in real good conference.

Poison-  who is the best Freshman in the country in your opinion?

For me... easy,  Ben McLemore... I'd take him number one in the draft if i had the pick.  Not a very good draft. In a good or great year, McLemore would be between 7-10 IMO.

I think he is better than any freshmen but wouldn't give it to him because he redshirted last year.

I think Bennett on UNLV is the next best player but hasn't got that much recognition.

Ben McLemore is great. Definitely, I'd take him. Glenn Robinson, Jordan Adams, Jahii Carson, Marcus Smart is also great. Anthony Bennett and Shabazz Muhammed are very strong as well.

see: Quincy Miller

I would say JS and QM are very similar both in their games, and in their draft position. Different stats, but much different situations where Quincy was on a loaded team and JS get's all the minutes he wants.

Quincy went late second round.

Though Quincy was more moe than JaKarr.

No mention of Otto Porter?  Kid will be a good pro.  Same size as jakarr but more range at this point.  Porter's game wasn't ready as a freshman either.  Jakarr needs muscle, more range, and some work in a few other areas.  Doesn't mean jakarr won't grow as. Payer but leaps and bounds like guys like Porter and Oladipo.
