From Providence Journal;

"The men’s basketball coaches met with NCAA basketball chief Dan Gavitt to discuss scheduling and the importance of retaining a strong collective RPI to get as many teams as possible in the NCAA Tournament. The league will sponsor an 18-game, round-robin schedule and Fox is said to excited about a potential Tip-Off day/night where all 10 schools would play.

While nothing is scheduled yet, Driscoll said the plan is to run the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden beginning with a Wednesday-night doubleheader and then a quarterfinal round on Thursday, semis Friday and the championship game Saturday night. He says he realizes the 10 schools need to “market and promote the tournament better than we ever have but that’s because before we never even had to sell tickets. It just always sold out.”

My first thought is that I hate it . . . but I readily admit that I know nothing about him. Anyone familiar with the guy and pleased to hear this?

Pluses: Catholic league & east coast experience.

Minuses: MAAC commissioner.

Everybody still buying into Bladshun's rants?

Yes he rants, especially about Georgetown, but give him credit for being on point most of time re: new BE. Ensor getting job would be consistent with his prediction that a big time commissioner would not be in the cards. We'll see if he is right. If he is, this is disappointing.

At one time he was reporting Gavitt and the WCC guy were the favorites.  Then he floated Brosnan which was never happening. Then Tatum.  Then Gotham.

I'd sit back and see before we jump to any conclusions.

I am unaware of Bladshun predicting that a "big time" commissioner would not be in the cards.  Last week he rattled of half dozen other names.  I have no idea whether the MAAC guy is a good or bad choice regardless.  Just because he's the Maac commissioner doesn't mean he can't be a good commissioner of the new league.  I think we need to sit tight and see who is hired.

His reference seems clear;

“@blauds: New Big East  looking for an administrator rather than a leader as its commissioner http://ajerseyguy.com

Agree on sitting tight, but must note, opinion of folks I respect, is that Ensor is not the level of leader BE needs. Perhaps he proves otherwise, if he is selected.

Just my opinion but when you are starting a new conference just like if you were starting a new company the person who will lead needs to have gravitas.

It's bad enough Baldi thinks his team is better than most in our conference but now we are looking to hire someone from his conference to lead ours ?

I get the impression no matter who is hired the school President's are going to run the show and call the shots early on in this conference.

"Fox is also considering it's own "Big Monday" type broadcasts and Midnight Madness shows. They are likely to broadcast Big East basketball games every night of the week on their new network."

Additional info, most of which has been out there;

The big Monday, midnight madness, games every night, and opening tip off event all sound great.

Latest tidbits. Don't get the ADs being so in dark about Commissioner selection, if true. I'm sure things will work out;

"1. The new Big East has soccer and volleyball schedules for the fall despite not having a commissioner or staff yet. Each athletic director among the 10 was given a sport to work on scheduling along with the coaches from each school. The athletic directors are completely in the dark on the league's new commissioner; the decision is being made by the university presidents. Meanwhile, the schools are still waiting to hear from broadcast partner Fox about what nights they will typically play on during the conference season. Monday and Thursday doubleheaders are a possibility, but the use of pro arenas by Seton Hall, Providence, Villanova, Marquette, Georgetown and St. John's makes it hard to lock in just two nights per week for games."
