It could be the angle of the shot, but is that a pregnant cheerleader in the background?

2. The new Big East starts up in less than two weeks -- do you know who the next commissioner will be? Well, neither do the athletic directors, who have been left totally out of the loop. The 10 school presidents have been directing the entire operation, and made a number of runs at professional sports candidates before looking once again at college possibilities. The one person a number of administrators want is the NCAA's Dan Gavitt, who was a longtime associate commissioner in the old Big East. But Gavitt reiterated that he is staying put. The presidents should have done everything in their power to get Gavitt. He would have been perfect, since he understands each of the schools better than most. He also knows the difficulties of scheduling in pro arenas. Managing that issue, leading and organizing the league will be the most pressing issues of the job, since a television negotiation is already done with Fox.

Do we know that they didn't do everything possible?  Maybe he's just happy where he is.

She should have checked her facts on how many priests are presidents before formulating the unfunny running joke of the article.

"Val Ackerman has agreed to become commissioner of the Big East conference, adding to a basketball-heavy resume that includes being the first president of the Women’s National Basketball Association, a person with direct knowledge of the hiring said.

The 53-year-old Ackerman was chosen by the presidents of the conference’s 10 universities, according to the person, who requested anonymity because the contract hasn’t been signed.

Other female conference commissioners include Bernadette McGlade of the Atlantic 10 and Robin Harris, executive director of the Ivy League.
NBA Commissioner David Stern, who appointed Ackerman to start up the women’s league, praised her choice as conference chief.

“She brings all of that experience with intelligence, a keen analytical ability, an intense work ethic and a winning management style,” Stern said in an e-mail.
Ackerman didn’t immediately return an e-mail or voice message at home seeking comment on the Big East job."

Btw, did BE only sign a three year agreement with MSG for BE Tourney?

"The Big East signed a 12-year television contract this year with Fox Sports, a unit of News Corp. (NWSA) The league has also agreed to play its season-ending men’s basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York for the next three years."

I'm guessing that it is an inaccuracy.  The press release was to reveal the Ackerman hire, not our contract with MSG.

Hard to say.  She seems like a very good choice at face value.

I would agree.  At the end of the day though she can't make big changes unilaterally.  To sign a tv contract, add schools, things like that..  she would need approval from the school presidents; and they're the ones who I don't have much confidence in.
