Everybody rips into the St. John's fanbase and it is perfectly undstandable, especially after seeing Providence (who is in a similar position) sell out their arena last night. But I'm still one who believes that if you put a competitive product out on the floor year in and year out that the fans will show up. The fact is that outside of 2 years ago, the program has been dormant for roughly 13 or 14 years. People have a hard time spending time and money on a product that they don't really believe in. I'm guilty of it too. When I was at the Georgetown and Pitt games, there was a part of me thinking "What the hell am I doing here? This team doesn't belong on the same floor as these guys." Moral victories only go so far and people are bored of saying "Well, the boys play hard but ... " Again, maybe m being a blind optimist on this subject, but I still think if SJU had a solid run of success and made a couple of tournament appearances in a row, you'd start to see the fanbase come out again.

Even without Harrison, you should beat Providence.  Some of the worst posters on the boards are the ones crying about our fans and the refs...if you need to make those excuses about why you can't beat freaking Providence in a big game with your tournament hopes dwindling, you need to realize how out of touch you are.  So many lame excuses.

I'm just saying in year three of Lavin's tenure, I'm a little disappointed.  Like others have stated, he has not found anyone that can shoot with any kind of regularity.  Might want to start working on that if you want to be ranked.

To be fair providence isnt that bad this year and they have been playing pretty well of late and home games in the big east are big. Couple that with missing our best player I wasnt expecting a win but I thought we were going to keep it closer than vegas thought and have a chance to win.

About 10 minutes left it felt like Providence was going to go on a roll but our kids hung bought.

I'm dissapointed today but not angry or anything. Just feel bad for the kids because they could have had the game

I thought this game was just as tough for us as the remaining two.  Need to learn to consistently win games like this at some point, though

Doody, PC has had no success either and their fans show support.  It is lame to wait till this team wins 13 BE games a season to show your support.  There is no respect for fair weather fans.  They are like the losers who only show at Belmont for a triple crown.

Dan, PC has a senior who just broke Ernie D's career assist record at PC.  Oh, and he also broke the BE record for assists in a season.  SJU does not have any senior like that.  SJU does not have any senior or junior.  Next season this team is going to win these games - even against a good crowd on the road.

I'm not knocking the posters who show up at most of our home games and are lamenting Lavin's decision to not play Marco more down the stretch.  It is directed at the jokers who think they can coach at this level, or at any level even close to this.  We are fans.  I'm just pointing out that as fan base we deserve a poor report card.  The few guy's on here that support this team and get themselves and others to games are up against it.

There is hope for this crappy fan base - a word that Bob Knight hates, but what does he know about anything outside of coaching baskeball?

On my way in the building I was wondering if wearing my redmen gear would be a mistake.  Three steps in the building some big dude in a Hatten jersey walking in the opposite direction casually gives me a high five and keeps walking without saying word.  The Native New York fan base can be the best in the US.  The potential is there.
The hope is there.  The wins will come.  The fans will follow.  But it is cool to be a fan at the start.

We've seen our last win of the year and I'm totally furious with Lavin hanging out our dirty laundry at this time of the year and screwing the kids who worked so hard and the fans who paid to see better.  This was all about ego.  There would have been no harm in just cutting Dlo's minutes and letting the season play out the way it should have would have sufficed instead of building on our horse's ass reputation.  Watching him sitting his second best shooter all game only confirms that the UCLAns were right about this
guy.  He is a self promoting know nothing who doesn't care about anyone but himself.  That's about as far as you can get from the classic St. Johns Vincentian coach type. Can't wait till he finally swindles his way into the league so we can bring someone legit in.

I think thats a bit harsh. But from what I see redshirting Gift, playing Greene so many minutes, the game plans and suspending DLO for more than 1 game is fair criticism.

A bit harsh?  Bobre is still pissed that Lavin had the gall to take time off after Lavin's father passed, that Lavin dared bench Sean Evans, that Mark Jackson didn't get the job, that Xenu didn't save bobre  when he saved Riley Martin, etc., etc.

I hope that the people criticizing Lavin for suspending DLo are not the same ones who have criticized Boeheim for sweeping his players' misdeeds under the rug.  I'm guessing no, because that would be hypocracy.

Look, I am a fan of DLo's.  I've defended him against the "bad body language" and "too many tattoos" charges.  But, at this time, I'm gonna give the coach the benefit of the doubt.  If he felt that the behavior warranted suspension, I'm gonna have to guess that it was pretty serious.  Until I hear otherwise, I will withhold knocking what Lavin did.

I think we lose anyway but did anyone notice the obvious 5 second no call on providence with 40 seconds left after Phil hit his 2 fts?

I've been disgusted with the officiating overall this year and think its been worse then ever. It's extremely inconsistent and quite frankly unacceptable. Every possible block/charge call is a charge no matter what. I don't know if these guys work too much or just need new trained guys but its making it difficult to watch some games.

wasnt Bobre also pissed about how much time Lavin took off for having prostate cancer ?

Don't apologize for knocking the refs.  They stole the game from us.  (Kidding---a bit)

See a lot of disappointment with Phil throughout this thread.  His shooting certainly leaves a lot to be desired.  Imagine a combined shooting over 3 games (Xcuse, Ville and Pitt) of 11-44.  What is he doing out there?  He is replacing D'angelo because it was D'angelo who shoot 11 for 44 in those games while Phil was 18 for 44.  Not saying he is a shooter but he is the only option we currently have for the 2 guard position so get over it.  He has given his best, albeit not a superstar.  As long as he stops those constant 3 pointers, I will not get on his case as it shows learning that that is not his shot.  While he was 4 of 15 last night, I would take that over someone's say 1 of 12 in the Pitt game.

Don't want to kill a soph who tries hard, but welcome the day when staff realizes he has limited upsize and deserves 10 to 15 minute per game tops going forward. That assumes we make the effort to recruit a competent BE level guard to complement Branch, Sanchez, Chris, Sampson and Dom. With Phil at the helm we will never develop the offensive rhythm and consistency to succeed.

I have no information but I don't get the feeling we have any shot with Severe. Are we even recruiting him hard? Has Lavin seen this kid play or spoke to him? I think it's wishful thinking that we just can get Severe.

Not recruiting him at all .
