How about giving him a consistent 12 and cutting Greene's by 12? That is worth a shot no? I don't think Greene is terrible, but he is not a 40 mpg player or someone who should shoot 15 times a game.
[/qu               I ve been saying the same thing. You would also have a more rested Greene, instead of an exausted one at the end of the game. To play Greene 40 min a game is beyond me.

Thank you. Is this that hard to see. And to be honest I would rather it be 15-18 minutes but would gladly take 12.

Honestly the question at this point is this:
Is he a good enough recruiter to mask his in game deficiencies. At UCLA he was a great recruiter. So far he has been a good recruiter at SJU. Will that be enough?

He needs to re examine his support staff and add an X and O guy.  I'm sure they were blindsided by Dunlap getting the Bobcats job.  That needs to be priority one. Maybe Jordan fires Dunlap and he comes back...

Dunlap has doubled the Bobcats wins from last year.  He ain't getting fired.

He is EXACTLY what this staff is missing.

Detail focused, X&O guy who lives & breaths the game.

If he would've been the difference between making the Dance and not- and you can make that case- then it would have been worth it.

Big IF.
Also STJ would have gotten raked thru the coals if they made a HS coach the highest paid assistant in the BE.

Not sure if you know or if you can answer but do you have any idea how much more Dunlap made than Hines? Chiles?

Don't know honestly.  Just know Dunlap was supposedly tops in the BE.

Honestly, I think if you swapped all of Greene's minutes for Marco there would be little to no difference in the performance of this team.

Speaks to composition of team. Someone's responsibility, no?

Are you seeing the whole picture here or are you just looking at this years team? Lavin came in after being away from college coaching for 7 years and brought in a top ten recruting class. There is probably only a few coaches that could do that. The fact he also had to fill 11 ships in his first class didn't help. They are not great shooters but what is the alternative? Waste ships on 5-6 players like Marco? If you can't defend you won't play. The shooters will be coming, the better all around players will be coming.

I had heard he was making 350k+ - that is huge salary for assistant coach.

marco was a 40 percent three point shooter at monroe where he got the minutes to get his rhythm going.  his coming out cold 32 percent on threes is the scoring equivalent of 50 percent from two.

i've written before, lavin's man crush on greene is killing us right now.  maybe he sees greene as isiaah thomas two years from now...and that explains sacrificing this season.

a worse explanation is lavin can't make the in-season adjustments he needs to coach the players he has.

Juco ball is alot different then Big East ball. I bet Phil Greene would have a good 3 point % at Monroe

Unless Hooper pulls a Tonya Harding on Phil Greene, he will not get any run. I am not saying he deserves any run, dude couldn't get run at Harvard, but Lavin loves Greene.

Maybe he doesn't get in the rotation but with a team that doesn't shoot good I would figure he'd get his chance.

Yes, you would figure that, just like you would've figured Marco's minutes would go up following Harrison's suspension, and yet, things with this team don't always work the way you figure they should.

If Marco wants more minutes he should shoot better, 32% aint gonna get it done

To be fair, Lavin has yanked Marco almost immediately after he misses his first shot.  Marco is not Chris Mullin, but he's the best shooter on the roster right now without Harrison.  We already suck offensively, so why not see if Marco can get into a shooting rhythm even when he misses his first 2 or 3 shots, rather than play a whopping 7 minutes against ND?

I dont disagree with your point, but I think Marco needs to take advantage of his opportunities. Knock down those first few shots and force Lavin to keep you in.

Taking a "shooter" out the second he misses is horrendous. Just don't even bother playing him. The fact that this "strategy" was even brought up by announcers recently makes Lavin seem like someone who never played the game. Personally I think if given minutes Bourgault could be serviceable, but you are not going to get anything out of anyone the way he is being used. Anyone that argues against this has never played one second of organized basketball!

For all you guys who keep blindly apologizing for the staff... you should remember what you said in the fall.

Crgreen:  "I'm calling 24 wins, minimum,  barring injuries."

Simplyred: "I love cr's optimism.  I would go with 21 wins.  With Lavin back, and a full roster, I foresee an NCAA bid."
MCNPA: "22 wins and NCAA. "
Boo:  "20 wins. Most athletic team in the BE."
Redstorm212: "20 wins going into the tournament. 11-7 BE. "
Marillac: " I feel very confident this teams wins 23 and at least one NCAA tournament game.  "

As a reminder, the team has 16 wins.   And is below .500 in the conference.

How can you blindly defend the staff when you all expected to be substantially better than this?  Should no one be accountable for results?

The reason Marco gets limited minutes is because his defense is horrible. You have to play defense at this level. He also is hesitant on his shots. He just needs to catch and shoot the ball, he's only gonna play limited minutes if he misses anyway, not sure what he's afraid of.
