Really Really down on Lavin

He did though.  Dwayne Polee.  Who left after just one year.  And also ironically that first year was the best year we've had under him.

How do you build a program the right way?

Marco is like Steve Novak... If he doesn't hit his first 2 shots he's useless.

He had one ship to offer.  You build it the opposite of Jarvis, you don't bring in all junior college players.  You try to set a foundation of four year players and then you try to try strike on a few high impact players.  The majority of fans are disillusioned on here and just want wins right away because the past 13 years for the most part have been bad.  So this is why you all rip on the coaches and make wise cracks on other board members, Coach is doing things the right way and things are only going to get better.

I think we are in good shape under Lavin.  Recruiting has been excellent.  I'm not happy we mailed it in this season because we still could have been an NCAA team IMO.  If D'Angelo wasn't so difficult, we could be possibly tourney bound.  Still remains the most talented team we've had in the longest time, and a lot to look forward to.  Adding Sanchez, hooper, Gift and hopefully an improved and stable D'Lo and we can be quite good I think. 

Branch has looked quite good lately here, and I don't think he will have a problem running the PG spot.  The kid can really pass and is just now start getting into a groove.  We've had a bit of bad luck with issues like our initially ineligible players, the Sanchez ineligiblity etc.  Lavin hasn't had the smoothest road the last 2 with cancer etc.  i still think we bring back a pretty dynamic team next year.  Hopefully all our pieces including Harrison are back and ready to play.  I cant see D'Lo wanting to tank his current playing career and wasting another year sitting out to transfer.

Novak shoots 44% from 3 for the Knicks. If Marco could do just that and add nothing else to the team we would still be far better off. Marco is at 30%.

Novak was a phenom outside shooter.  Very difficult to shoot like Novak did at near 50%.  I think max hooper is more at that level of shooter, but not that type of athlete.  Regardless, having another kid who can shoot will help.

How do you know this? This is the problem all the time, we overhype kids we see on a freaking youtube clip. You always talk like you are a scout like the next coming recruit.

So what? Do you have any idea how hard it is to turn around a program or an organization? It's brutal. I don't know if Lavin will do it, but I am not judging him now, it takes a lot of hard work and luck. But Polee who cares, he was a long shot. Replacing all those players was tough for anyone, had to take a lot of chances. Let's see what happens in the next 2 years, at that point Lavin will have given his best shot.

I don't know how many stars Ron Roberts had in high school. I believe it was 3. Lavin told the one guy we needed this year, and didn't have to look elsewhere. It wasn't just a simple oversight. He probably never even saw him play.

It varied. I think rivals had him at 3 and espn at 2. Either way, I'm not going to kill Lavin for that because every high major team in the country overlooked him too. If he decommitted from STJ and went to UConn or something then yeah that's on Lavin.

I have no problem saying Lavin used poor judgment on Polee, but he did not have a lot of time to secure 2010 recruits as he was hired in March.

I believe Hoover was the best outside shooter in Mater Dei history.  Made 300+ 3's in his career there and shot 50% from the outside as a senior.  Had 10 threes in one game.  Kid shot near that percentage at Brewster as well I believe.  Kid is a real gunner.  Don't know if he can do much else, but he can shoot from all indications and has high release point and is pretty tall so he should be able to t his shot off.  I'm not trying to hype him, just saying I think he's probably a better shooter than Bourgault who has been decent enough but not unstoppable from the outside.  Both Hooper and Bourgault will help next year when we need guys to shoot.

No one talks about the players that leave if the coach wins, but Lavin hasn't. That's all that matters. We can debate his judgement on a case by case basis, but at the end of the day, it's the body of work that counts. Nothing more.

If you ever get to MSG early he shoots from the first or second row of the stands and it is nothing but net.  I had the pleasure of sitting next to him at the game at Providence last weekend and he is a very nice but confident kid.  He is expecting huge things from himself next year shooting wise.

Ron Roberts is playing at a more suitable level. Put him at the Big East and he wouldn't have the same stats. Keep in mind if Polee/Roberts was still at St. John's it might mean no Dom Pointer, Amir Garrett, or someone else.
