So this appears to be our schedule so far

Fri.  9/27 Midnight Madness
Tu.  11/5 Humboldt State (Exhibition) (Carnesecca)
Fri.  11/8 Wisconsin (Sioux Falls, South Dakota)
Fri.  11/29 Barclays Center Classic (Ole Miss/Georgia Tech/Penn State) (Barclays)
Sat. 11/30 Barclays Center Classic Finals/Consolation (Ole Miss/Georgia Tech/Penn State) (Barclays)
Sat. 12/7 Fordham (MSG)
Sat. 12/14 Syracuse (MSG)
Sat. 12/28 Columbia (Barclays)
Big East
Home: Depaul, Creighton, Seton Hall, Xavier, Butler, Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Providence
Road:  Depaul, Creighton, Seton Hall, Xavier, Butler, Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Providence

And San Fran comes and visits us. That leaves 5 games left and I hope moose is wrong and at least one of them is a MSG game against a nice program. Would be neet to play maryland and see if UA would do something neat for the matchup.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

My guess is at least one true road game (probably on the West Coast) and 3-4 cupcakes at Carnesecca.

I got a feeling outside of Cuse there might not be an OOC marquee matchup at MSG

It's possible.  It might have to wait until the year after.  Scheduling is not easy considering the conference shakeups.  It's not for any negative reason though.  Everybody wants to play at MSG.  I just think the schedule might not allow it at this point.  Personally, I don't care.  Let's win our OOC games this season and work for scheduling a better MSG slate for  14/15'...

P.S. I'm still pissed Duke put our series on hiatus.  Would LOVE to play Duke this season.

Two of our most recent OOC series are Duke and UCLA and both might be playing in MSG anyway.  Everyone seems to be able to make their trip to the NYC area without having to play us.

Any info out yet on the pre-season Euro Trip, ie dates, potential opponents, etc?  These kind of exhibition trips are usually mid to late August....

We should play Kentucky, MSU, or Kansas at MSG. A program of that caliber to replace the programs we've lost from our conference.

Saw this on Redmen.com. Starting the season at Wisconsin

http://www.buckys5thquarter.com/wisconsin-badgers-mens-basketball/2013/5/13/4328366/wisconsin-to-open-2013-14-season-vs-st-johns-in-south-Dakota

Neutral court in South Dakota.  It will be a nationally televised game and the troops will be ready after the European tour.  Great early test, as Wisconsin is a lock for another 20-25 wins.

Wisconsin, SU, Penn State, Ole Mis/GTech isn't enough IMO. We are loaded this year. It's time we played a schedule like a team preparing for a final four season. Seeing Columbia at Barclay is sad. Who cares?

I thought we were going to play Illinois? Anyone know what happened to that?

MSG - Nova, Georgetown, Marquette, Butler, Creighton, Xavier
Carnesecca - Depaul, Seton Hall, Providence

That is a best breakdown. Seton Hall will complain. Let's see if they can make an argument.

I was thinking

MSG- Nova, Georgetown, Marquette, Butler, Seton Hall, Providence
CA- DePaul, Xavier, Creighton

Creighton could go either way, they're going to be a Top 25 team but I'm not sure if they are a big enough name to get a lot of fans to MSG.

Gotta have them at MSG first year to start a benchmark.  See how many of their fans make it a trip.  Yeah it might be skewed with McDermott next year but its a good welcome to the league.

South Dakota is the only state w a declining population. This doesn't bode well for ticket sales.

Yeah, but Soiux Falls is the fastest growing Metro area in the state, 47th nationally:

I think I read that the place only seats about 3600, so ticket sales can only be so good.

I don't know.  But I agree, I think one more quality opponent would be good preparation   Then fill in the schedule with cupcakes.
Most good teams play 4-5 quality non-conference games.   We're on that edge.   Syracuse and Wisconsin are about as good as anyone, and then we have two of Ole Miss, Ga Tech, Penn State.     Not a walk in the park, but not overly difficult either.
Regardless, 1 more good non-conference game would be nice.

Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place but I thought everyone would find this interesting. The poll is from over 3,000 students so it's significant. Notice how many students don't even like basketball it's the 2nd most popular choice. It supports my hypothesis that such stark diversity may impact our attendance numbers. This says nearly 1/4 of the polled students don't even care.

Those numbers are probably fairly consistent with what most schools would be.  I have a hard time believing 3000 students actually participated in such a poll though.  I don't even know where that poll is from but 3000 is a lot considering not even close to that many students complete their professor evaluation surveys.

Joe, I think you're using diversity as a scapegoat, be careful about that.

USC and UCLA are nearly as diverse as St Johns.  Attendance at college sports is like any other business though; you need to compete in the marketplace.   Have a good product, market it well, set competitive prices, distribute it appropriately.    We've had a terrible product for a decade, for a long time the athletic department was a mom and pop shop when it came to PR and marketing, and the campus isn't connected to the arena where we play most of our games.    That's a recipe for failure.

I would imagine you could be very successful even if you have one or two of those things going against you, but not when you can't check any of the boxes.
