Any chance we stay out of the garden for the most part next year in hopes of being placed in the east regional for the NCAA's? Isn't the rule like 3 games or less at a venue or else your ineligible to play there in the postseason?

No chance

Reason being we are not confident of reaching the sweet 16, or just wouldn't want to considering its the first year of the new big east and we need as big a stage as possible?

Both.  We can't afford to play just 2 conference games at MSG.

That is a brutal field.

It's the Final 4 compared to the JV warm-up act we were in last year.  Maybe this time somebody with a good seat can ustream it?  Last years television broadcast was incredible.  Why not just call it the Brett Yormark Invitational, fill the lower bowl with water, and watch him walk on it.

Are you referring to the Charleston classic or our game vs st Francis?

Already have one locked in with cuse as well. St. John's needs the garden.

It would be foolish to play in two tournaments at Barclays because they count as home games and we will barely have any fans there.  Just wish it was the Legends Classic instead of the Barclays Center Classic.

Usually those tournaments don't count as home games.  Only Holiday Festival is 'tournament like home game'.  If we were in Legends Classic the two prelim games would be the only home games.
This year our game vs St. Francis was counted as a home game and last year the 2k Sports Classic games at MSG were counted as home games too.

You sure about that?  Someone at STJ right before the game told me it was not.

I agree, but hypothetically speaking, if the garden got in the regular NCAA rotation and we become a consistent contender in the future, would you guys be averse to playing at Barclays in years MSG is hosting to try and make a potential final 4 trip easier?

I don't know.  All the sites are calling it neutral location though.  And if it was home game, how come no tickets.

"St. John's will add the Barclays Center Classic to its developing nonconference schedule for 2013-14, which already includes a Madison Square Garden clash with ACC-bound Syracuse in December. It has yet to be announced whether the Red Storm will continue its series with past opponents Duke or UCLA, or schedule any new opponents."

Get your Hemmingway outfit MJ, they play Pamplona Bulls in July, good defensive team.

I don't see the sense in that.
We have a history and long standing agreement with MSG, no need to a partner around just for the chance we might reach a later round.
If we play like a team that deserves to advance, then our regional would be Prudential, Barclays, or DC/Boston at worst.

Lets get in a position where that's even a possibility though, and that will be enough for me.

The other thing is even that if we were to play in a regional at MSG I doubt we would pack enough of our fans in to get a true home court advantage as sad as that sounds.

What do you want? We have been bad 2 years in a row. You think they will put us in the more prestigious tournaments? Ole Miss is good, Georga Tech always seems to be dangerous, and Penn St. is not the pushover it once was. The way our team plays, nothing is a gimme so you can't call this "brutal". I'd rather lose early to Ole Miss than Asheville or USF.

Brutal as in the Barclays center will be a ghost town that weekend.

And Joe, Penn State is absolutely a pushover.  They were 2-16 in the Big 10 and 10-21 overall.

We're also the "host school" for the regional.  By rule, we can't play at MSG because of that.
