Bucknell earns the right to have good teams play'em. Monmouth I don't get. If we playing the maac a local like Manhattan,Iona, or LIU(not MAAC) deserve a game. If Monmouth was any good at all I might feel different, but they Bad.

Too much is made of this.  We have 3-4 legit non conference games and will have a strong league schedule.  Need a few cupcakes.  Manhattan, Iona, LIU are not cupcakes and present too much downside to include them.  If we want to take some non conference schedule risk, we'll add a high major conference team to the slate.  Optics.

Bucknell is a good game to have.  They should be decent and won't kill our RPI.  Monmouth is a cupcake for sure but you need a few of those.

Plus its not as simple as oh lets play so and so.  It takes two to tango and dates and guarantees have to match.  Its not as easy as some here envision it.

If you read the article, it says that Monmouth is a preliminary round game of the Barclays Center Classic, so they were likely assigned to us.  That tornament format is the same as the 2K Sports Classic that we participated in 2 years ago.

Thanks, that makes it better. We lose to Monmouth we get to advance anyway, right?

We lose to Monmouth we don't deserve to go anywhere but home. If they were given to us by the tourney comittee it's only to help attendance with two local teams playing each other and I would think they want sju to play in the next round against a marquee team prob on national tv.

Is a West Coast game out for this coming season?  Earlier there was talk of one.

If not, Creighton will have to do.

Yes.  The "Gardner-Webb Rule", as it were.

Your not alone. When Miami was in the BE. I never missed a game in Miami. For a short while it looked like us S. FLoridians would be able to make a 3 hour drive to Orlando and UCF .

is from Monmouth NJ, and you think that's why we're playing them in a home game at CA?

Yes, around 50 miles away so the away venue is better to showcase the home court advantage.... 8)

LOL

It gets even better...Monmouth Junction isn't even in Monmouth County (where Monmouth University is located). Its 30 miles away from MU.

FWIW from Athlon

5. ST. JOHN’S (17-16, 8-10 Big East, NIT second round)
Key players gone: Amir Garrett
Top returners: Jamal Branch, Phil Greene IV, D’Angelo Harrison, Chris Obekpa, Sir’Dominic Pointer, JaKarr Sampson
New faces: God’sgift Achiuwa (redshirt), Max Hooper (transfer from Harvard), Rysheed Jordan (freshman), Orlando Sanchez (redshirt)
The Red Storm are poised for a rebound after missing the NCAA Tournament last season. Sampson averaged a quiet 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds last season. He’ll make up an imposing frontcourt with Achiuwa, who redshirted last season, and Obekpa, who averaged four blocks per game. Jordan was one of the nation’s top high school point guards.
