Lamont's Son

I was over here thinking man, Lamont Hamilton was getting it in real early to have a college aged kid. Then I read again.

They were almost close enough in age to play college ball together.

Lamont Middleton was one of my all time favorites. He was so tough, and such a great dude. Really happy he gets to watch his son play in the dance. Every SJ's fan should be cheering him on.

He was a tough dude inside, as was Billy Singleton. Two guys without great athletic style but just got the job done. Lamont came from Hartford as a transfer?

Yes. Believed he played wit Vin Baker there.

Sat on the pine during the Elite 8 run per transfer rules.

Came off the bench the next year (may have started a game or two) during Malik's senior year/ Lou's last year.

Then started as a senior during the surprise Cain year.

When I talk about the lack of a low post scorer I just think of that team and remember they not only had Lamont, but they had Shawnelle Scott backing down they man and goin up strong.

Sometin that I harp on, but is woefully missin wit this STJ team. Maybe CJ can bring it in the year to come.

Lamont and Shawnelle S. were two of my favorites growing up. 
Those teams weren't the glory years some of tou guys experienced, but there was an optimism when you walked into Alumni H.   At least it felt that way.
They would win their fair share, and they'd lose a couple.  You'd hope for more, but there was still a positive energy around the program.  And there was stability, if you missed the tournament you felt like they'd get back there the next year.

If nothing else, I hope Lavin brings that back.   Not greatness, just a chance to have good basketball on a regular basis.

Well said, Desco. My time at SJU intersected with the end of Carnesecca's/beginning of Mahoney's tenures, and your characterization of the general feeling around the program hits it on the head from my perspective.

Lamont and Charles Minlind two of my all time favs at St Johns along With Tyrone Grant a couple yrs later. Glad I was in school then it was a great time.

Can't say they are soft in my opinion, just not big enough to make an impact in the paint. Garrett and Dom are tough dudes (not because of fighting). They are willing to take an elbow to the head but just can't bang with 6'9" guys.

Postell was 6'4 with his shoes on. He was playing the 3/4/5. Not about how big they are. They don't seem to care what happens to the ball after they shoot it.

We may not have true post players, but I don't think the offense we run is doing us any favors either.
All our passes are horizontal, side-to-side.  As Fun pointed out to the UVA guy, we don't make entry passes to the paint.   So even if a guy like CO developed a post-up game, how would we know?   He's never going to get the ball on the low block.  We pass around the perimeter and then set a pick up top.

Every now and then against a zone we will try to get the ball to Jakarr at the foul line.   But that's pretty much the extent of our passing in to the paint.
Maybe it's the scheme, maybe it's our guards not knowing how to pass.  I don't know.   
But I think Jakarr and Jones might be able to 'bang' more than we think.   

 Why can't we find another like him? Not a great talent but he is exactly what we would need. Not one player in the psal like him? Not one player in the catholic league we could take a chance on ? Would lavin ever recuit Lamont ? Tyrone grant?
