I wanted to get this team out of its misery before the NIT, but this group getting a postseason win on the road against a decent 18-win St. Joe's team was really, really big on so many levels. The NIT is relatively meaningless with the exception of some younger teams like us that can use it as a springboard for the next season(s).
I think it's huge for these kids to win a game without Harrison. There will be days he's off and there will be games were he is injured or in foul trouble and the team needs to learn to get past that--like a pitcher fighting through a game when he doens't have his best stuff.
I've been on Jones a lot this season, but he looked like a different player last night. The stats won't show it, but he was moving his feet, muscling up, and hustling. My only problem with him was his effort, but it looks like he might be getting the message from the staff. Obekpa also has steadily improved IMO. We need that kid to be huge next year.
These kids needed this win to head into the offseason knowing they have what it takes to win on the road in the postseason as sophs without Harrison, Sanchez, Gift, and Hooper. I hope they don't lose badly to UVA with a center, Mike Tobey, from Marillac's hometown of Monroe, NY. Even if they do, I think there is still a huge net gain from this win.
This team will be completey different next season!
