http://blog.zagsblog.net/2008/06/15/oliver-has-top-5-rumble-in-the-bronx-notes.aspx

One of the top centers in the Class of 2009 is Dan Jennings of Staten Island, N.Y.  The 6′9 Jennings says he has offers from Marquette, DePaul, Louisville, Minnesota, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Xavier, St. John’s, Rutgers and Seton Hall.

At one point Pittsburgh was one of his favorites, but when assistant coach Orlando Antigua left for Memphis, “I haven’t got a real big call yet (from Pitt).”

“Louisville has been calling often,” he added. “St. John’s been calling me.  Minnesota been calling me.”

Jennings said he wants to “take my time during the process.”

“I’m not going to rush it. I”m just going to take my time.”

Jennings spent last season at national prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., but will prep a fifth year next season.

“I’m thinking about Brewster (N.H.) Academy or South Kent (Conn.),” he said. “I’m not sure yet. I’m going to look at the schools and see.”

South Kent will also likely add 6′6 former St. Raymond’s of the Bronx standout Kevin Parrom, who is considering Marquette, St. John’s, Rutgers, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Providence, Clemson and Rhode Island.  He has been to Rutgers and St. John’s unofficially.

The Connecticut school is also bringing in 6′5 Mike Burwell, a first-team All-State selection from Cardinal McCarrick High in New Jersey. Michigan and Indiana are recruiting him the hardest, as well as South Florida, UMass and UCLA, his high school coach said.

Oak Hill Academy big man Dan Jennings has been a busy 2009 prospect. This past weekend, Jennings ignited the New York Gauchos to a Gold Division title at the Rumble in the Bronx. Jennings was named the Most Valuable Player.

And in the last 48 hours, Jennings took an unofficial visit to St. John's University. "I was impressed with St. John's," Jennings said. "I liked coach (Norm) Roberts and it was good to talk to him. I saw a part of St. John's I hadn't seen before."

The talented New Yorker stated that the new plans for the campus was also impressive. Currently, there are several building projects underway on the St. John's campus in Queens.

Besides St. John's, Jennings listed Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Louisville, DePaul, Marquette, and Minnesota.

"I'm open right now," he said. "I liked what I saw at St. John's so it gave me something to think about too. I'm not sure when I might make a decision. It could be in the Fall or after. Right now, I don't know."

Reebok Notebook: July 9

Dan Jennings (Oak Hill Academy, VA 2009)
The 6-foot-8 center was a tremendous force in the low post. He has a big body and displayed good moves in the low post. He also showed a soft touch while playing above the rim. Jennings is currently flirting with double digit offers, although he has not yet named a frontrunner. The big man's day was cut short as he sat out the last game of the evening due to a minor injury. Jennings was feeling dizzy following a bump to the head and spent the final game of the day watching from the bench.

saw this posted on LFBall...apparently Dan went nutso at a recent AAU tourney?  anyone know anything?

http://lfballonhoops.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

"What is happening with Danny Jennings? Danny is a fine player but anytime a player goes after someone with a chair he needs to be disciplined by his Coach and the Tournament Director. No excuses! I am not saying schools should stop recruiting him, but I do say it again makes travel/aau tournaments seem bogus and political. How do they allow him to play additional games? Did they not even think about the insurance coverage? To top it off they name him MVP. Are you kidding me?

This is so typical of how these travel team tournaments and teams kiss up to players in fear of getting people upset. What message does it send to other players, especially younger ones who watch games and hear the stories? Unfortunately, I heard a few players uptown in a local tournament talking about it as if Jennings was a super hero. It was like, "Danny was not taking nothing" and "They are lucky yo, that Danny did not get to them." MVP? Jim Hart, who does a great job with his now area event, should be ashamed of the message this sends and the lesson that was failed to be taught to a normally good kid.

Recruiting wise? Most coaches will look at it as if Danny is this tough kid who they need. It's about toughness and kids who take no mess they will say. I would doubt any school will stop recruiting him. I really have no problem with this if he exhibits better control and behavior the rest of the summer. But personally, he is a very good player but not a great one."

He's right. They coddle these kids, but, in the screwed up mentality of modern AAU basketball, this behavior is tolerated by a few adults that are afraid to take a stand.
Karron Johnson is another kid that exhibits anti-social behavior.

kids are kids plain and simple wether u play football baseball hockey whatever. even if he wasnt playing sports this isnt anything to be surprised about. people lose their cool he lost his. and if its the game i think hes talking about then yeah he should have hit the player with a chair. how many times have we as adults gotten mad at our bosses or spouses or the a rear of a donkey who cut me off on the highway who didnt put his indicator on and when i catch u im gonna whoop ur ass. it happens to all of us. lfball needs to stop it.
as far as him being a prospects him and dante taylor reminds me of justin just more polished because they have been playing ball longer. dan is a freak. im not sure about his academics though. but he is a grown ass man.way way better than bruce

athletes are held to higher standards than us regular people though...they're not allowed to be kids or make mistakes.

this seems to be out of character for Jennings (as it was for Parrom) so it probably won't effect his recruiting...a kid his size does need to learn to handle his business without picking up a chair though.   ;D

He is a manchild!

DICK IN A BOX.  Really?  WTF.  And Dalton Pepper?  I thought he was hot on 'Nova.  And I didn't even know WVU was on Jennings like that.

So what big man recruits are the staff left with?  James Padgett?  David Bruce...?  Jordan Williams?  Maybe they can get on Aaric Murray

Article says Aaric Murray is Huggy's next target.  I wonder if Jennings was told that before he committed.

This is disappointing. I knew Pepper was going to WVU last week because his cousin(WVU alum) is a friend of mine and he was very excited he was going there.  I had no idea they were hot on Jennings.

Ouch. Are we going to be able to grab any top New York player?
