Lots of time and a lot of shaking out will be done by the end of the summer.

Not saying Abu will suddenly be a top SJU target but things can change.

Thought we were along with his teammate Terrell? Has there been an update I may have missed? Thanks.

Abu said that he holds a scholarship offer from St. John's and provided his thoughts on the Red Storm.

"They're recruiting me hard, texting me all the time, making sure they keep in touch because it can get hectic with a lot of schools coming at me," Abu said, "[They are] a great group of people."

The rising senior said that St. John's head coach Steve Lavin is "great" and talked about whether he would like to visit the school's campus.

"Definitely, definitely. [That is] definitely a school I want to visit," Abu said. "It's close to home, my family could come watch me play if they want to."

Abu, who does not know any of the St. John's players, provided his thoughts on New York as a whole.

"I'm from Boston so I'm not really a fan of New York," Abu said, "but anywhere I'm a good fit I'm going to play and I'm going to prosper."

As for his bond with the St. John's coaches, Abu remarked, "It's a good relationship, they text me all the time, make sure they keep in touch because it gets hectic. So, it's good."

Imo, this is a tough get, but happy we are still in conversation. Stud player & seems like a great kid to boot. Getting a visit would be super.

It is refreshing to know that we have a good chance of getting a few guys from the various top guns we are recruiting from this class.  That wasn't the case before the Lavin regime.  It is now.  I'm very confident saying that we'll get our fair share, and the ultimate goal should be to secure a combination of top 50 guys who project as staying less than their full tenure, with some 4 years guys as well.  Roster balance.

Mentions SJU in this Rivals article today by Bossi:

http://stjohns.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1518349

But then this quote in a scout.com article from yesterday.  Can Lavin make NYC feel like LA??? LOL!:

Abu said he’s planning to take all five of his official visits. When pressed on where he might visit, Abu said he wouldn’t mind heading seeing a school in a comfortable climate.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “I want to go somewhere warm if that means anything.”

Abu is currently regarded as the No. 79 recruit in the 2014 class.

That would eliminate almost all of his schools then

Dan Martin, former JJ guy, like his work and commentary;

"Schools in the Running: Two Big East schools from the Northeast, St. John's and Providence, have been on Abu for a while and could offer him something many college freshmen are looking for--immediate playing time. Coach Steve Lavin also has the benefit of mentioning Maurice Harkless, a similarly sized player who spent one year with the Red Storm before jumping to the NBA. Cooley is adding pieces to build a strong program and now has seen guard Ricky Ledo move to the NBA, despite not playing a minute in a Friar uniform.

Now that Abu's stock has risen, many schools are calling including Kansas State, Florida, Connecticut, North Carolina State, and Kansas, in addition to St. John's and Providence."
