I disagree Derk.  I understand Dom took a lot less shots, and many of them were high percentage shots, but in every measurable way Dom was a pretty decent shooter this year.
Pointer is a better foul shooter, 3pt shooter, and had a higher fg% than Sampson.
Plus, as I've been pointing out - he led the team in assists.   I really don't see him as an energy guy off the bench; he's locked in as a starter in my mind.
And I'm sure we'll use the big lineup from time to time, but I see two downsides to using that as a starting lineup: 1) If you start both Sanchez and Obekpa you don't have a center to come off the bench.   That's why I think Sanchez starts and Obekpa will get 20mins as his replacement, and occasionally playing along side Orlando.   2) I'm sure this summer Jakarr is working on his perimeter skills, but right now he can't handle the ball well enough or shoot from the outside at all; that makes him a liability as a small forward.

Makes sense to me. Although I would say JS outside shot improved throughout the season, its his ball handling and passing that needs to improve if he is to play the 3 spot.

Although I would say JS outside shot improved throughout the season,

He was 0 for the entire season from 3 point range and he's a small forward.  I'd say it didn't improve enough.

That's not his shot. He only took 7 threes all season. His midrange shot % had to have been pretty high.

JS still dribbles into traffic and easy to trap. I love his potential, but much work to do. I think he plays pro, but needs a couple of years. Might be a four year player.

If it's not his shot...than the Nba isn't a realistic future goal for him, is it?

Does everyone in the NBA have to be able to make 3's?  I guess a SF does.  Seems to me, if you can score in other ways, it isn't fatal if you can't hit 3's cosistently.

That coudl be what keeps him at STJ for another year or two :)

From your finger to g*d's ears. Jakarr is great and I'm so grateful to have him but how many Nba 2/3's don't have range out to Near the 3 point line?  Could be a deal breaker, no?

If no 3-point shot is the issue, it's something he could always practice at the next level. I don't think it's the dealbreaker that something like slowness is when it comes to NBA executives. But I will add that it's ridiculous to draft a SF who can't hit a single three, and that talented SFs are a dime a dozen.

I personally think it would be better for his career if he grew an inch or two and worked out like a fiend.

Honestly, most 4s in the NBA now can step out and hit a 3. The game has been evolving more in that direction.  You don't need to be a 3 point specialist as a 3 in the NBA, but you need to be someone the D can't ignore out there, unless you are absolutely exceptional in other areas which Jakarr is not.  He will need to be a proficient 3 pt shooter when he leaves here and I bet he is by next year.  A lot easier to teach that than teach quickness or height ;) .  Look at rajon rondo before injury this year and even against the heat in the playoffs last year.  He was hitting 3s and deep 2s and he was godawful at that before late last season (now in rondos case it didn't matter as much because he is an exceptional distributor and athletic freak of nature at pg with the wingspan and hand size of a 4 and probably best vision in the NBA).

If Branch cant start at the point next year, we got problems

Couldn't Jordan start?
I got the feeling he was more of a combo guard. We need a legit pg. If Branch can't keep the starting Pg job, why keep him here?
The why keep him here is silly, and you just playing around. A team needs so many guards. How good Branch does might be a question. Thing is he looks to be a guy who can fill in a both guard spots. He's played a bit more then half a season, and some of it hurt. If your looking to dump the kid you got a bunch of our guards rated ahead of him that we don't know yet if they ever be players. How about you listing the guards on our team that are going to rate playing time.

I would start 3 guards unless we are playing a really big opponent.
G- Jordan
G- Harrison
G- Branch
F- Sampson
F- Sanchez

6th men- Dom at the forwards and Phil at the guard.  Obekpa starts against team that are bigger.  Would hope that he gets 20 minutes a game off the bench without starting..if that's possible.

Lavin will have his work cut out for him managing minutes ...He's got plenty of help on the sideline, or so it seems,  so lets see them get it done.

If it was up to me that would be my lineup as well. Don't think it will be however.

I think Dom is the heart of the team. He's gotta start IMO. Still, isn't it nice to have so many possible line ups?

John Havlicek played the 2 and3 at 6-5 and just found ways to score without being a shooter. I think he averaged about 20 a game. He got assists, made put backs and if you were a Knick fan he made you nuts. If you got a handle and get up and down, and bust it every second your on the court, and just invent ways to put the ball in the hoop you don't have to be a shooter. I should add he was better then 80% at the line. Hondo played with Jerry Lucas at Ohio St. and Jerry at 6-10 could really bomb away.

Havlicek played before there was a three point line, and when hand-checking was considered fundamental defense, not a foul.
Plus, I wasn't around, but I know enough history to say Hondo became a pretty clutch shooter in his own right.

In today's nba even big men like Bosh and Ibaka have to be able to knock down 3s occasionally.   It's an absolute requirement for a small forward.

Maybe D'antoni gets fired again and he can be our new offensive X and O guy? He doesn't need to get paid a lot because the Knicks and Lakers will still be writing him checks.. Could see the pick and roll run nicely with Sanchez/Sampson and Jordan/D-lo...   :D
