Just saw Thon is trying to enter this year's NBA draft..... Why did we even waste our time with this kid?

Thon Maker & his camp have been talking with the NBA about the upcoming Draft for some time. They expect an answer as early as this week.

Thon Maker is no longer playing in the Nike Hoop Summit, per sources. Instead, he’ll begin individual workouts to prep for the NBA Draft.

Well at least Kostas A will probably be activated for the Hoop Summit

Huge implications to what the NBA rules here.  If they rule that 5th year Prep seniors meet the requirement of being 1 year removed from their senior year then that could open the door for others.

I know Larry Fitzgerald of Pittsburgh got a similar ruling in 2003 for the NFL draft.  In the NFL you have to be 3 years removed from your senior year.  Fitzgerald had prepped for 1 year and played at Pitt for 2 years and the NFL ruled he was eligible.

Does the current rule say specifically as far as where the year has to be spent?

If NBA doesn't extend the # of years, I'd rather these type of players bypass the college level altogether. one less thing that bastardizes the game but NCAA has many others to keep everyone on toes.

Draftexpress just clarified that if you spend one day in an American HS you are no longer considered international.

Seems to me that there's no way he'd be get eligible for college and is throwing a dart to get in the draft. It's not like he's a guaranteed lottery pick by any stretch of the imagination so this reeks of desperation
