I don't know who this Angel Delgado (2014 | Troy, NY) is, but St. John's is supposedly taking a look at him - and Darrick Martin, who was reported to be out in Los Angeles, may have liked the gaudy numbers Delgado put up.

The 6'9" forward from the Dominican Republic shot 54% inside the arc (good) and put up an impressive performance on the glass - 13 rebounds per game, equally distributed between the offensive (6/ game - 23% of available offensive boards) and defensive (7/ game, 30% of available defensive rebounds).

That's monstrous against any competition. He plays his high school ball at Redemption Christian Academy in Troy.

I thought Redemption Christian Academy closed. Lamar Odom played ball there.

“@VC_Jordan: Session 1 players who are flying a bit under the radar: Ajon Efferson (ICP Elite), Jonathan Joseph (BABC), & Angel Delgado (NY Lightning)”

At EYBL;

“@VC_Jordan: @NYLightningAAU's Angel Delgado also proved to be a strong rebounder. Pulled down 13.3 boards per game. 6.3 offensive & 7 defensive per game”

I watched him in game 4 and he was quite active under the hoop. Didn't realize though how many boards he collected while watching. I don't recall him doing anything offensively.

Number one, I wonder if Our Dominican connection with Felipe & Orlando help with Francis & Delgado (assuming he is BE level player) Yeah, I'm getting desperate for a big or two. Ha! Btw - all contingent on no eligibility nightmares please.

Number two, what time do you get up man? Lol

“@VC_Jordan: NY Lightning's Angel Delgado had another big game against Southern Stampede earlier. 17 points, 15 boards. Mike Williams also had 21. #EYBL”

This guy can rebound a little bit apparently. Impressive!

Yup, some of the best rebounders are. Perusing the ball seems like a lost art.

Love the production on the glass. Curious to learn more about him and like to see us stay involved.

Listed at 6'9?  That must be in heels...the kid in that video looks like he's pushing 6'6.

Just in what I've seen of him online, I like his rebounding ability but not sure he's the high level PF we are looking for moving forward.  I could be wrong and need to see more.

Peoplke said GG was going to be a beast on the boards too when he came in. If this kid is really closer to 6'6, the last thing this program needs in an undersized power forward.

Yes they did.  And Gift grabbed 7 boards or more 13 times, 9 or more 5 times.   Our leader this year, in winning Big East Rookie of the Year, had 7 boards or mor 10 times, and 9 or more 4 times.

Context, context, context.   Gift did that on a team of all freshmen, with only 1 other player above 6'6.    Moe filled in admirably but GG was the only non-guard or wing on the whole team.

Where were the rebounds going to go? To Phil Greene? To Dangelo?.
Just standing under the basket for a full game there were going to be defensive rebounds that literally fell into his lap.

We seem to have this debate every time GG's name gets mentioned.  But you're using stats to paint a picture of GG's production that is very misleading.   He's not a terrible player and he did have a few big rebounding games but they came in games we lost by double digits.
Look at GG in the close games we played..
OT loss to Villanova 1reb in 30min
Close win v UCLA 2reb 18min
Close Win v Cinncinnatti 5reb
Close Win v ND  6reb
Not terrible, but not the picture you're painting.
Saying he got 10+ boards against Kentucky or Pitt when we lost by 15+ is a poor indicator of how much he contributed.

Imo, being the only big on the team doesn't make rebounding easier.  It makes it harder because you are the only one battling the other team's bigs.  Maybe he would have had even more if there was anouther big to occupy the opponents.

Someone has to get the rebound. I agree with Desco.
