red storm would have been okay if it wasn't for the tradition of losing we've all attached it to.

johnnys is fine.  ncaa would never allow red men, so forget it.

Hearing our nickname is changing to the Johnnies

I don't mind it..  Red Storm sucks.

I'm with you Boo.   Seems fine to me.   And if we win I'm sure it'll grow on me a lot faster.

I always thought that Johnnies sucks. I have never and will never call them Johnnies (although it's not bad as Bonnies). Johnnies sounds like a 6th grade boys team. I have always loved Red Storm. It's a colorful name that suggests a lot of action. I never liked Redmen. Boring dull name.

Not sure I like johnnies. But then again I hated the red storm but got use to it. I would love to go back to the Redmen. Maybe with Harrington gone they will. Other than that I can't think of any name that I would like. So if its not Redmen I'm in Boos camp of I don't care as long as we get to the final 4.

Yes, but if our name was St. Dildo's, would you want the nickname to be the Dildos? Or would it sound really dumb?

Someone grow a pair and return us to Redmen!

Johnnies is a horrible idea.

I love the changes. So far we've been getting a lot of good things our way, with seemingly a big boost in our marketing coming our way.

Now I'd love to be called the Redmen too, but you have to think that with all of this good publicity we are gaining, if its worth it to get negative publicity our way. I don't think it it and I think we should just keep climbing upwards as a program instead of taking unnecessary risks.

almost all my friends who are not from St. John's refers to us as the Johnnies. any thing other than the Red Storm, sounds artificial.

Sounds like you were around in the '60's.  I went undergrad to Manhattan and remember the buttons we wore for games against the Redmen reading Flush the Johns.  Been an SJU supporter/season ticket holder since the '70's and would prefer Redmen as the name.  As an Irishman, I was always offended by the Excuse's Orangemen name as they were the ones persecuting us Catholics in Northern Ireland even to this day.
