ACC at MSG

I wonder what our benchmarks are - attendance? NCAA tourney teams? Does anyone know?

The ACC taking MSG for the tourney rather than the Big East would be a travesty.  Can't let it happen.

I can't imagine the Carolina teams will want/allow a permanent move to MSG.

It certainly seems like there would be a huge internal fight over it.. but who knows, if the ACC wants to maximize its revenue potential by further distancing itself from other conferences in terms of prestige then perhaps they go for it.

As I said in the other other thread I'll put it here as well.

18k seats split up 10-12 ways is NOT that many seats.  Attendance shouldn't be an issue.

Duke would in a heartbeat.  1/3 of the student body and maybe even more of the alumni are tristate or NE based. Wake, UNC, and NC state would not be ok w it bc it would clearly favor duke among the NC schools.

Maybe they play both at the same time.   Early rounds switch days with the semi and the finals on the same day.

I thought of this as well... Perhaps ACC has their 1st and 2nd round games down south and their latter games at MSG.  Maybe not every year, but perhaps on a rotating basis.   I wouldn't put that past a for-profit entity like MSG to try and pull that off.   The more games/fannies in the seats for MSG the better during that week.

My question is does the ACC have problems selling out their tourney in Greensboro?  What big advantage do they gain from holding it in MSG, recruiting?  The top 6 teams (Duke, UNC, Cuse, L'Ville, Pitt and ND) have no problem recruiting.  This is nothing more than a frontal assault on the Big East.

This is not unexpected. The ACC wants to kill off the new Big East before it can grow into being a big boy.  Why wouldn't they want MSG?  It totally makes sense.  It's all about prestige, tv contracts and revenue generating possibilities for all parties involved.  They want to put even more distance between themselves and their nearest competitors and kill off any future competitors.

I have no clue if the ACC could pull this off, and I would be surprised if they did, but it's not surprising they are pining for MSG.

I'm not understanding...don't we have MSG for at least 15 years? I truly think the new Big East can and will fill up the Garden...we still have SJ, Nova, G'Town, Marquette which should draw just as before. Creighton will be good (maybe not great) with McDermott. What they do after their current key players leave will be key to their attendance. Xavier had a down year but they went to a ton of sweet 16's in the past decade and I expect them to get back there soon. They should be fine. Butler will get a good recruiting class...they are a great program and their academics are top 50 I believe nationally. Providence is also definitely on the rise and have plenty of alumni near NYC.

We will be fine guys...we are deep as hell just not top heavy. I like it that way. The fun now begins...no more excuses with the blue bloods out of the way.

“If the ACC tourney is in MSG I would really like that,” McCullough said. “It means I can have my family there to support me. I think it would be great if I can get a chance to play in the Big Apple.”

Then you should have signed with the Johnnies Chris. We need to start getting some early commits. Its clear ESPN is at the center of this and is pushing this to happen. Not sure it will fly though, these new schools coming in and calling shots will certainly create some animosity, duke may not mind, but there are maybe 7-8 other schools who would. Not sure they will allow the league to cater to the new schools and their fan base and ignore the long standing members and their fan base.

Duke doesn't leave their state for the ncaa tournament nevermind the league tournament.  No way they agree to anything more than a rotating basis which I think msg will turn down

I'm sure all the Southern schools want desperately to help up Syracuse and, to a lesser extent, Louisville maintain their presence in the NY Metro area.  Makes perfect sense.  ::)

Obviously, this is ESPN driven.  Unfortunately, money talks.

Fans need to turn out in force for the BET the next 2 years.  Can't let this happen.

I can't imagine how 10 schools can't sell out a 19,000 seat arena.  SJU, Hall, Nova, PC and G'town would fill the place.  Marquette brings in a nice number of fans.  I'm sure that Creighton, Xavier and Butler will also be able to bring a decent number of fans.
