My hope is that he isn't terrible, because unfortunately Marco is.

They could both be terrible. It doesn't impact our season at all. Very back end of the depth chart here.

Honestly I would rather Jones and/or Felix get the left over minutes in non 3 pt specialist situations.

Agree. Plus Max may be slowed down carrying his "shot machine" around in games.

I think it can. We will still see a zone from a lot of teams until we prove that we can play against it. I don't think that the plan is for Hooper to be buried on the bench. He needs to be able to help us break that zone. Someone has to.

How many other players do we have that can?

I hope Hooper could be the next Steve Shurina. For the younger guys on the board, Shurina was a white kid that never missed a jumper in pre game warmups. Every once in awhile Louie would try to get him in actual games but he never made a shot and usually didn't attempt one. However he was amazing to watch him shoot 100% in pre game. I think Hooper can step into Shurina's shoes.

The rotation will likely be: branch jordan harrison greene pointer sampson sanchez obekpa.  They should account for 90% of the minutes played.  What can reasonably expected from someone who is splitting 20 mpg four ways and by all accounts is a specialist?  Anything contributed is a bonus.

Max is a nice weapon off the bench if we need a three.  Deep teams always have guys like this.  If they provide anything more than a trey here or there, it's gravy.

Could be but we have more weapons as a team then we did last year. if an improved Karr and CO along with Sanchez makes us more of a presence down low, our 3 point shooters should be able to get off easier shots. Not to mention improved PG play feeding the post. If we don't take advantage of the new and better skills this crew brings to the table then we're not doing a good coaching job.

Yes but hopefully Lavin doesn't step into Louie's.

steve blew that big layup vs nova in the big east tournament back in the day but at least he was one of the few leaves in the carnesecca coaching tree... which had very few leaves.

I believe I read somewhere that Shurina had a real nice run in the CBA and Michael Porter was backing him up one year.

I just don't see where the minutes are going to come from for Hooper to get on the court.

Come Big East conference schedule, Lavin most likely to go with a 8-9 man rotation.

There are 200 mins to be played.  I see the following breakdown:

Harrison: 30
Jordan: 20
Branch:15
Green: 20
Pointer: 30
Sampson: 35
Sanchez: 20
Obekpa: 20
Gift: 10

of course injuries / suspensions / unexpected doghouse could shift things around.

After everything we have been through . How can anyone be confident this guy is going to be good. Hope he shocks me. Will believe it when I see it. Guy couldn't play at Harvard that is a fact. Don't know much about Harvard basketball. But if he couldn't get burn vs brown, what's he going to do against Georgetown. What ever happened to the mystery recruit from about 5 years ago?

I don't know what the future holds for Hooper though I don't see him making a big impact in the coming season, maybe further down the line.  But re your comment, playing time is more often dictated by who you're playing with than who you're playing against.  Obviously certain situations and situational players will affect that.  However as has been stated ad nauseum, Hooper's frosh season at Harvard was played on a team that a) was 26-5 and made the dance so they had some talent (their RPI was 35), and b) as a team shot 36% from 3 with two guys shooting over 40% including a kid who hoisted up 161 over the course of the season so they didn't need to put Hooper in as the situational 3 pt shooter.   Funny thing is this year he would have been even less needed as each of Hofstra's top 4 scorers shot over 37% from 3 and as a team they shot 40% . . . from 3.  Hooly Dooly.  This year Rivard put up one short of 200 and again shot over 40%.  One thing Amaker has not been at a loss for at Harvard . . . shooters.

Amazing, everyone and their mother complained about our outside shooting this year, and now we have a shooter and you all want him buried on the bench, unbelievable

Yes we do but we need to see how he handles the speed of our game, our ability to move the ball, and how fast the ball will find him, quick release etc. Until then we won't know if he is Marco 2 or a legitimate threat. I hope we can establish him as a legit threat.

I was never clamoring for a 3 pt shooter as much as I wanted to upgrade the PG and post offense play.  Jordan and Sanchez should accomplish that.

PS, whose minutes are you giving Max?  Dom's or Jakarr's?  He can't play guard, PF or C.  He'll get some minutes I'm sure, situationally as described above, but I can't see him being a main rotation kind of guy his first year at STJ.

We do need shooters. However unless Jordan can show he can run an offense and Lavin can actually implement an offense, having a one dimensional shooter on this team is the old tits on a bull problem.
