LOL, I remember one early season game in the Porter/Harvey year and we were trouncing one of our early season patsies at AH with many fast breaks and the crowd was going nuts.  Looie yelled out to Boo to slow it down, and Boo replied that he WAS slowing it down.

I do have the time to keep myself well informed. Life of the gentleman farmer don're you know. Shame you don't, you could look up how to work the quote function. It's hard I know. There's like buttons and shit, it's pretty confusing.

I looked briefly for the dates HO was in NY and couldn't find them. I considered searching Lexis but that seemed a bit extreme, just like the weather apparently was in NY, in October 1980.

Teacher say the followin:

1. Lap may have not have automatic landed Alcindor, but we woulda had a chance. And of course Alcindor woulda change the face of STJ and college ball.

2. Cant see why STJ and Al McGuire wouldnt worked out.
For STJ: a great coach, an alum, devout Cadolic, a son of the Rockaways, a colorful but never blasphemous personality, someone who could woo the press and alums even more than Lou.
For Al: return to his home city, closer to his recruitin base, returnin to alma mater, at the time a mo prestigious job.

3. Akeem and Mullin.
Only question to ask is not if they win a NC, but how many....

4. Havin Walter come back woulda been like 86 all over again. Jax, Glass and Truth all seniors, Shelly a JR. Problem is the same tho. Lack of depth. Starters woulda played vast majority of minutes and likely wear down come tourney time.

5. Imagine a backcourt of Jax as a senior and Glove as a frosh. Or a backcourt of Boo and Glove. Or a team of Glove, Sealy and Jay. Mind is thus boggled.

6. Majerus woulda been the best bench coach, but coulda turn off the recruitin base wit his (colorful) personality.
So what about Bobby Cremins?

for survivedc. you can quit humping his leg now.  he didn't have the information.  for him, it was an opportunity to trash someone for merely missing part of a quote thus hitting the button in the wrong spot.

most of his "contributions" are opportunities to trash posters he cyber stalks.  again, to me, that's creepy.

this was a great thread started by choz that unfortunately degenerated into something else thanks to one poster.  typical.

Nothing to apologize for, just stop whining.  You were incredulous that Akeem could be cold in October, Fun provided evidence suggesting it was pretty cold that year.   That's all within bounds.    Don't make it personal.

since there was nothing in the previously posted weather thread that found unusually cold temperatures in nyc in october 1980, i went to the nyc weather archive.  there was nothing to indicate unusually cold weather on any day in that month.  i can't say if it was colder than usual...but nothing unusual.
i'd also guess if akeem was in the airport and no one met him he wouldn't even leave the terminal to venture into town.  a guess.

I read another story that said that Guy Lewis didn't remember who he was or that he was coming and that it was Houston that sent no one to pick him up.  Hakeem was told to take a cab from the airport.  That same story seems to indicate tha NYC was too cold and too busy and that Hakeem wanted to leave without even leaving the airport.

What are you even talking about? Five of the coldest temperatures ever recorded in the history of temperatures in the entire history of Octobers in NYC were recorded in October 1980. I posted the dates and the links to the record low temperatures:

thanks for the research.  we'll never really know if hakeem was in the airport on those days at that time or whether he even left the terminal unless we ask him.

My fiancee and all her friends that are from Peru who live in the U.S all complain about the cold anytime it drops below 50 degrees. Heck she was complaining all day yesterday. So if 50 degrees is cold for them I'm pretty sure it's going to be even worse for someone from Nigeria if they like the heat

Of course I'm not a meteorologist, but to me the lowest recorded temperature on a particular date would be extraordinary by definition.

That's a true story. Guy Lewis didnt meet him at the airport. And no one from St Johns met him at the airport either

I just read while looking it up that Akeem said NY was to cold and too frenetic and he asked his advisor which of the 5 schools that he was going to visit had the warmest temperature and Houston was it so he went to Houston after arriving at NY
