Do you guys honestly think we are getting shut out of legit talent next season? Come on.  Be honest,  we know nothing of what the staff has been working on besides what a few " experts" say.

Much ado about nothing.  We should enjoy the season on the court. You know full well we will be fine on recruiting front.  There is no historical evidence to think otherwise.

Agree, but top 125 players are fallIng off the board, and the ones that are not committed we aren't involves with.  I think all fans of the program should have concern about whether or not the level of player we want to land will be available late in the game.  I'd still like to see us pop up on the radar of at least 1 or 2 consensus top 100 kids.

I must admit I'm getting a bit antsy.  I'm watching Turgeon and MD locking up a solid class, and while I know they had more schollies available, I really want the staff to connect before the Nov signing period.

But, putting it into context, the staff made a lot of headway from Aug 31 (Harkless) through Nov 17th (Garrett) in 2010.  Different situation, but we just don't know & the suspense is building.

Transfers, Junior College, Euro players.... all things we aren't privy to..  Rankings don't mean much to me.  At a minimum, 50% are way off.

You have every right to worry yourselves silly.. Me, I'm going to enjoy the team we have this year and let chips fall where they may..

We have a top notch staff that get paid a lot of money to get kids to play for us... I trust them..  My only point.

At least in prior years there were many known targets who were realistic candidates to sign here. It's bordering on inconceivable to bring in a top class for 2014 given who's left and who we have been recruiting to date.  Maybe we can make a successful late run at one "ranked" player but its not likely that this years class will match the prior two. The good news is that we aren't desperate like in years past.

Agree with you regarding the current team.  I too am excited to see how they perform.  I believe that this team is the recruiting poster for the future.  Style of ball that is played and the results will have a lot to do with selling St. John's to the next group of team leaders.  Also the break up of the conference/what it means to TV exposure/future of BE in NBA  draft are probably all concerns to H.S. kids and things that other schools are using to negate our recruiting efforts.

There have been at least a few people who got nervous about Lavin not coming through literally every single year he's been here. He's come through every time.

Yes, the lack of currently recruited players speaks for itself.  The '15 will be the re-load class.  I just hope the staff goes for the "big" names - bigs with really cool names to take over for GG: Diamond Stone, Chance Comanche, Cheick Diallo - all good ones! hah!

Totally agree! But that does beg the question of why don't our insiders on these boards have any info and I am not trying to be sarcastic I am just curious. Even if their sources swear them to secrecy they can at least allude to the fact that staff is actively involved with some good players that will address our needs. Again, just asking, don't mean to offend anyone.

I am confident that Sampson and Obekpa will not be legit first round considerations after this season and will return. We might not "need" anything.

I'd love to have two ships in hand come April to play the transfer/graduate/JUCO circuit and of course pickup the late drops after the coaching carousel starts spinning.  There are ALWAYS quality high school kids available late.

Yep, seems like we'll probably only lose Gift and Sanchez this year.  We really only absolutely have to have some kind of juco big man to grab rebounds and absorb fouls.  We should have two very good teams the next two years.

Also lose Marco so at least 3 slots to fill

The saying goes, "No use crying over spilled milk". In this case, I think it should be "No use crying over milk that hasn't been spilled". The chips will fall into the right place ladies and gents. Worst case scenario, Obekpa and Sampson both get to go pro. If this is the case, we will find a servicable big man (most likely JUCO) to play some D and grab some rebounds to play with C. Jones down low. Yes we MAY NOT make a final 4 or even the NCAA that year. However, after having a few of our big man go pro, I am willing to bet we land a top big man for 2015. If only one of them goes pro, we don't have much of a problem for 2014.

I believe today is the first day after the dead period where coaches can recruit off campus.  Will be interesting to see where we are and who we are following in coming weeks.  Some work to be done.

Who knows how many HS players come out of nowhere as well. One year they are a middle of a pack player and the next they are a can't miss recruit. It is sounding like we just need a few players to retool the roster and not rebuild the team for next year which is good. Hopefully these players can help transition the 15class (of hopefully top 100 kids) and we can continue rolling on...of course if we have a clunker season this year, that will change everything...

i think we're getting what we hoped we'd get from the lavin hire.

we have top one hundred players who we hope get coached up enough to make a solid run in march.

the coaching staff can do that.

we're not going to get top twenty five players in the forseeable future, especially since the big east morphed into a lesser conference.

we're not ucla, and by the looks of things, we'll never be.

we just got a top 25 recruit in Jordan.  big east has the second most committed top 100 players for 2014.

we might never be ucla but we can certainly be in the conversation for a top ~ 25 player or two every year.

Do we really want to be UCLA at this time? LA only cares about the program if they have a shot at a Championship and they can get easily swallow up by the Clippers now and historically by  the Lakers. A lot of expectations with little upside. If Lavin can make the team relivant in NYC with some legitimate runs at a NC SJU can reclaim the city from Syracuse and be up there with the Knicks and rangers...

We have no injuries and no ineligible players. (Yet) But we have more talent than we've had in 13 seasons. Jordan, Branch, Harrison, Pointer and Sampson were all top 50 recruits. What do you expect? Should Lavin be landing recruits like Duke? Like UK? Is nothing else acceptable?
