Syracuse Game Discussion

 Yeah, I know.  Not trying to critique his game. Just commenting on what I saw in the last 4 minutes or so.   I love the kid.  Personally, I think after coming out of the gates roaring, he's hit a lull in his shooting of late.

The difference between this year and years past is that we other scoring options.  He should't feel the need to force anything.  By that theory, his percentage should be better this season than last. 

- Yet again we fall behind early and trail at the half.  Perplexing.

- There star player and freshmen point shot 14 for 29.  Ours shot 8 for 27.

- 1 for 15 (6.7%) from 3 won't get it done anywhere.

- Looked like Dom should have had "and 1" twice down the stretch.  Instead got ugatz.

- Ennis is a freshmen?  Wow.

- Jakarr can't go 0 for 2 from line late.  Got to hit one there.

- Really admire his chutzpah, but perhaps with our improved depth and other viable scoring options , 3'lo doesn't have to put his head down and force so much late.

- First team we've played thus far that matched our athleticism and then some.

I think from now on, after this game, Jordan will take on a much larger offensive roll and slowly be the leader.  Not in a rah, rah D-lo kind of way, but he will be the spark that drives the engine and future success will depend on how good he gets.

 Our peak is much higher with Jordan playing the majority of PG minutes than either Branch or Greene..   

Maybe it's just me, but I was more encouraged by Jordan's performance than I was wowed by it.   I don't think it was an eye opening game in the same sense as Moe's performance against Providence where you knew from then on the offense would mostly flow through him.

I thought Jordan did a lot well; his defense was especially good, probably the best part of his game; He also was aggressive and drove to the rim ; and he hit his foul shots. 
Very solid game.   But those things don't tell me he's ready to run the offense.   

I want Rhysheed to be the man come February, but I think he's coming along slowly.   He's not ready to be our goto guy Boo. 

That was the first time he got real minutes...at least partly because he stayed out of foul trouble....he penetrated more...Coach told him to be more aggressive at halftime and also he didn't pick up early offensive fouls....he needs to keep getting his minutes......fREE JORDAN!

He averages 18mpg it's not like he hasn't been playing.   
Jordan is the future, and he might arrive soon. (I hope he does)
But his 13 pts Sunday  wasn't the coming out party you think it was.

If people are upset with Dangelos shot selection and shooting %s, they're going to be real frustrated if Jordan is given a permanent green light.    10% from 3pt, and 25%fg 

I'm just saying, let this develop naturally.  We have other weapons, he'll get his, but  I don't think he's ready to lead this team yet or needs to be "set free".   

I basically agree w you...just feel he needs to get his minutes...more like 30...I bet when he gets in the flow his shooting percentage goes way up......I want him playing like a sophomore....he needs his minutes to do that.....maybe he's a slower learner....I doubt that but we don't know....he isn't even talking yet.

 Point is, in order to be the team many of us believe that we can be,  Jordan needs to build upon Sunday and continue to gain confidence.

Couple of things I would like to have seen.

1. Big Line up. I think the front line of CO, OS, and JS would have helped us both offensively and defensively against SU size and length. It was frustrating seeing D'lo force his shots at the end, but he didn't have many options on the court with him. I like Dom as a player, he has his role, but he was a liability on offense in the half court set. Both he and Obekpa were non factors and it was 3 on 5 for the most part. Not a fan of the big line up against other teams but I think it would have been perfect against cuse.

2. Play more zone. Cuse is not a good outside shooting team. They got there lead by taking advantage of their size down low, and dribble penetration. Our man defense was much better in the second half, but I would have like to see how cuse responded to a zone.

Overall I thought the team played well. If we make a few free throw we may have pulled it out. Not looking for moral victories, just improvement. The teams passing has improved vastly since the first game. No reason why we shouldn't compete for a Big East title.

Point is, in order to be the team many of us believe that we can be,  Jordan needs to build upon Sunday and continue to gain confidence.

I agree with you that his development is key to them becoming the team we all want them to be. 
And I understand what you guys mean that he needs the extra minutes to do that.     I'm with you.  I'm just a little worried that his progress isn't going to be a steady climb.  could be a 2 steps forward one game, a step back the next.    Don't forget that last week at this time we all thought that things had clicked for Primo and he was coming into his own too.    And on thanksgiving weekend it was Hooper who looked like he had had his coming out party. 

That's why I'm a little leery to say this guy or that is ready to take over.   Granted, Jordan is in a different situation, he's younger and has much more talent.

Certainly it is not a lock that he blossoms quickly & consistently, but it seems to be the correct alternative. FWIW, I certainly would give Branch decent time as well. The latter has been spotty for sure, but for the most part has decent penetration & passing skills. (No penetration jokes please) He must learn to avoid fouling though, if he wants PT.

Agree but would give branch a better than decent passing grade.
