Great crowd at the Garden today. All the Orange fans around me were nervous that second half, you could see it in their faces. I even heard some fans say "Damm these guys are good". We beat the Orange if we see them again.

Star players make plays = CJ FAIR.
To me the kid could help a team in the league immediately. This is what STJ is missing, a guy who can come down and hit clutch shots with someone in their face. Kid came down the court and hit those shots with all the confidence in the world. Dom was draped all over him and he managed to make the shots.

CJ and the missed FT did us in. All and all very encouraged with the teams effort, we still have work to do but i feel confident going into BE play.

Let's not leave it up to the committee to select us or not on selection sunday. WIN THE BIG EAST REGULAR SEASON AND TOURNEY!! To me doing both is not far fetched.

GO ST.JOHN'S

Some good nba team is going to get real lucky when they draft cj fair in the mid 20's. He'll never be a star but he'll be a good contributor.

Somebody pointed this out to me at to game, but Fair has zero ability to go to his right hand, and I mean none.  We actually forced him right a ton in the first half, which was good scouting, but we're unable to stop some of his shots late.  Good player and good shooter.  Anybody who can force him to go to his right all game can stop him.  Like I said, we did s good job early but he killed us at the end,

After watching yesterday, I don't think he's getting drafted. Grant will, but that's it IMO.

Spot on about Fair going left. That said, I am so impressed with him evolving into smart, effective college player, who knows his limitations. He takes solid twos, instead of wayward threes, runs baseline relentlessly to utilize screens to score, is clutch & if the wrong guy is guarding him posts up or drives, often drawing fouls. JaKarr can learn a lot from those areas. Very heady player! May not be solid NBA player, but like a Tyrone Grant, Billy Singleton or Lamont Middleton, at this level playing smart is such a plus. I'm not comparing Fair to those inside players, just their smarts & relentless play.

However, DLo 6-20, 1-7 from three?  There's your loss.  If your star player takes that many shots and is as inefficient as he was, say goodnight.

CJ FAir was 9-17 from the floor and 0 for 3 from three. There's your win. Slightly more efficient than Harrison and consensus player of the game. Without Harrison SJ is not even in the game at the end.

Three guys showed up, Harrison being one of them. The rest could have stayed home and had a nice brunch. Branch and Greene scored 4 points in 25 minutes on 1 for 6 shooting. They were awful. Obekpa scored a point in 25 minutes when he wasn't getting punked under the basket. He was awful. Sanchez was awful. Pointer was slightly better than awful. That's why they lost.

I'm not one to blame the officiating, but there were back-to-back plays late in the second half where the refs no-called a blatant foul during a (I believe) Samson put-back...where he got rocked.  He made the bucket, but then they gave Grant an absurd continuation on a made bucket.  I mean, you have to be consistent.

21 team fouls on Syracuse, 22 on SJ. 28 FTs for Syracuse, 26 for SJ. Seems pretty consistent to me.

Blaming the referees is what losers do. The officiating was fine yesterday. It had zero effect on the outcome.

Don't think the officiating was fine. It was equally bad though and as such had no effect on the game.

That's nuts. No STJ fan wants that. On one hand, you could kind of feel the team was waiting for him to take over, but then again, these were not good shots that he took. He started to score more in the second half, playing a big part in our comeback, but Jordan, when he penetrated made great things happen. We need that to be our play in crunch time just as much as Harrison's freelance scoring. SU knew he was going to do that, and by the end of the game, they were particularly ready for it.

I agree its nuts but I see too many people who point to his low shooting % far too often.  Some mentioning we might be better without him.  I wonder if they saw us last year when he was suspending.  He is one of the few on the team willing to step up.  I am seeing Sheed now showing that ability as well.  Prior to that nobody wanted to take that shot so Harrison was forced to.  Again he might leave here as the all time leading scorer and will also leave as one with the most amount of fans of both ends of the spectrum.

As someone stated earlier.  Big players come through in big games.  I am still waiting for Harrison to do so.  Would he be missed if not around, of course but if you were to look at his stats against the better teams in conference for the past few years, you may note that they are not impressive for a player of his "hype".  Still waiting for him to come through big in a "big game".  Hopefully it will happen soon.

Hey Moose, not everything is either black or white.  No one said they wish Harrison would leave, such a drastic analysis shows immaturity on your part.  I was simply stating that in a game where a big performance from him was needed, it didn't happen. It's like when someone is critical of a move made by Lavin and some idiot will inevitably make an idiotic statement like " maybe they should fire Lavin and the whole staff".  What is the average age of posters on here anyway?

If Harrison had a better shooting % he would be the best player in the country, or close to it.    As it is, he's just very good.   I can live with that.

Two points that I took away from yesterday's game..
1) We don't yet have a go to play to break a scoring drought, and I think that hurts us early in games.   We spend the first 10 minutes feeling around and trying to find what works.  A few years ago it was a Hardy/Brownlee pick and pop; or an iso for Hardy at the top of the key.     There isn't a calling-card for when we absolutely need a basket.   That should change.

2) Lavin needs to find a replacement for Sanchez/Gift.    The rest of the roster is likely to return intact next season, but we would be an Obekpa foul or sprained ankle away from squandering the best team we've had in 20 years because we don't have a useful backup center.   I don't know that Delarosa can be a 10min a game player as a frosh.   But maybe a combination of him and Jones can fill the gap.   I don't know.   But the recruitment of a pf/c who can contribute immediately is something to look for.

GIft is down to 8 mpg now.  I expect that to probably drop even more.  Delarosa can play 5 mpg next year at the BE level.

I agree,  but even tho I'm far from a Gift-fan I know that if Obekpa fouls out or sprains his ankle and is down 3 games - we still have a chance.   It would be a blow, but It's not like our season is lost.    But next year we would have a ton of fire-power and experience, but it's playing with fire to have only 1 center on the roster.  Know what I mean?

But if what you say is true then I think we're in good shape because this team is just going to keep getting better.  Not that I'm already looking towards next season, just being honest that was a thought I had after the game.

I watched Delarosa the other day vs. Stepinac.  I don't know why but he didn't play in the 1st half at all.  He then played the whole 3rd quarter (8 mins), the first 3-4 minutes of 4th quarter, took a 1 minute breather and came in and finished the game.

I understand that D'lo did not have a great shooting day.  But the fact is if he is not on the court for St. John's, they get blown out yesterday.  Not a doubt in my mind.  All of the players on the court look to him to do everything for them.

This might be an unpopular statement to make, but I think JaKarr has definitely regressed this year.  His decision making at times is just atrocious out there.

This is absurd.  Harrison turned the game around singlehandedly yesterday with I believe it was 4 baskets in a row for SJU including rebounding the ball.  Our problem is not Harrison.  When Harrison is on, he's on and he's hard to stop.  The problem is that when he's cold, we need other guys to step up.  That's how a team game works.  Our biggest problem is other guys not stepping up.
Yesterday we tied Syracuse with rebounds, we had one less turnover that they did, we shot well from the line and foul calls were even. Our problem was that nobody besides Harrison could score.  Sanchez didn't show up.  Maybe he should have taken a jumper or two?

It was our game to win.  We lost it with a few ill-timed free throw misses and and posessions.  The silver lining is that the game was pretty evenly matched and they are the number two team in the nation.  It bodes well for us if we can keep improving.  We really are missing a small forward that can shoot.  Cant afford to hsve 1-17 games from three and expect to best Syracuse,

I'll say it again..
Is Harrison flawed?  Sure.
You can ask Harrison to shoot slightly better, but just realize then you're asking him to be the best player in the country.   Because that's what a 10% better shooting D'angelo is... probably the best player in the country.
Don't you think that's asking a little much?
