I think you're teasing?  Cuse is 15k/6k (undergrad/postgrad), SJ's 10k/3k.  50% more adds up through the years.  Still no excuse not to keep the Garden balanced 50/50 at worst.

I don't think that's accurate.    Not that it's that important, but you corrected Poison, so you should at least be accurate if you're going to tell someone they're wrong.

It's not really about their enrollment.  They're is a big regional identity associated with Syracuse.  Most of their fan base never even went there.  If you from an hour or so north of NYC and up, you are a Syracuse fan.  It's the same thing with Uconn fans.  Same thing with fans of many of the big state schools.  Don't have to be an alum. It's the only game in town.  There isn't any sort of hub in that region of ny, and it draws fans from all over upstate ny.

Contrast that with SJU who is planted in NYC and there are a million other things to do an focus on.  New Yorkers have a million different distractions in NYC and don't need SJU to fill any niche'.  SJU relies much more on SJU grads to support ticket sales etc.  It will take lots of winning to recruit casual NYC fans in huge numbers.  Syracuse did so by building a fantastically consistent basketball product over decades.  We are near that point and have only one NCAA tourney to our name in recent memory.

Things can start to change, but it will take winning.

Going to the game so I'm really hoping for a huge W here...... but my prediction:

I don't think it has anything to do with the variety of entertainment in NY. New Yorkers don't care about a loser, and whether we like it or not, our fan base hasn't accepted any one of our wide range of excuses like injuries, ineligible players, bad luck, a dumb coach and a president who intentionally sabotaged our program.

If we win, the fans will return. Only the Cubs can be shit every year and still sell tickets.

They have a more rabid fan base and over the years of the programs going in opposite directions the percentage of fans has gone way over to the other side. Didn't think I was breaking some amazing story here. If the program starts making tourney's I think we should at least get back to 50 / 50 split.

Disappointing thing this past decades is that Gtown, Nova and even Pitt have more fans than us not to mention Duke when they come in. Probably nothing could be done about Duke and maybe not even Gtown, but as the program gets better possibly we will outnumber the Nova and Pitt fans at Garden games.

I think with success it could get back to the Louie years, but yeah you are right fan presence was never great.
For the record the "road" game thing wasn't a shot at the program. Just a fact that it really isn't a home game for us so you don't have that extra little advantage which is huge in College basketball where the refs are heavily influenced by the fans.

If St. John's went on a run like they did in Lavin's first season , where we beat a bunch of ranked teams in a row, this city would embrace the team... I'm certain of it.

You must have been with all Pitt fans because there is no way in hell that place was anything close to 50/50.  It was 80% SJU.  Pitt doesn't travel well at all and the ones who were there sat on their hands.

The culture of the students and the school need to change otherwise we will continue to be a big school that has a bunch of fairweather fans or depends on the city of NY to embrace us only when we are good, while most of those fans went to other schools and deep down pull for them just as much.

Pitt and Nova do not outdraw us at MSG, including the Hardy game.  Gtown has by a slim margin recently, but I expect that to change starting this season.  The chant you speak of is "HOYA SAXA."  You are right about Cuse, though.  We may never be able to do better than 50/50.

Gtown fans are notorious for sitting on their hands too.  I find them tame.  Uconn was bad 5-10 years ago.  Even they have gotten tame.  Cuse fans are dbags.

Fwiw, uconn used to outdraw us but in the last 8 years, that hasnt been the case.  Those fans don't travel nearly as well as they did in the past.  Hoyas don't outdraw us either.  They do have a number of fans for sure, but do t outdraw us.  Cuse is a heavily Syracuse crowd.  They bring tons and they are loud.  Only way to change that is to beat them.
