Haven't heard much about Jordan's "issues" with the program lately. It's curious that none of the rumored issues had nothing to do with academics. Anyone still think he's transferring at seasons end?

Absolutely zero inside information here, but I think most of Jordan's "issues" surrounded adjusting to college life, college bball, and not being "the man" like he was in North Philly. Really hoping he sticks around, some momentum to end the season would be huge.

That reminds me-----  Baldi's guaranteed end of the week,   negative  Jordan news,  about two weeks ago, never materialized.....all that happened was Baldi turned me into an Iona hater  and lost his credibility.

Hope he earns it back.

It seems Jordan gets along with his coaches and his teammates.   He even is pretty classy when he gets called for non-existent fouls.  I am looking forward to seeing him interview someday.

Made a huge impact on the game while only scoring 2 points.  Gets guys like Obekpa and Gift involved in the offense which is huge.

He had two feet out the door, why is this hard for you to accept?   Coach recruited him back, but many people on here know that he was on the verge of leaving.   Other teams were aggressively courting him, and he left the team for the first game of 2nd semester.   The fact he chose to come back, if anything speaks to coach's skill at recruiting and connecting with his players.  So hats off to Lavin, he did a great job dealing with that situation.
But give it a rest, Baldi didn't kill your puppy.

Two feet out the door?  So you are saying his sick mother is being used as a façade to hide the truth?

The fact that the kid was so miserable from the beginning is more alarming.  Why not have things go smoothly right from the day he arrived?

Did Lavin not have a relationship with the kid before he showed up on campus?  Lets praise Lavin for the team finally putting together a complete game against a big conference foe and while we are at it lets kiss his butt for being able to keep Jordan here.

Desco, you talk like you know it all and have all these sources but you really don't have a clue at whether or not Jordan had 2 feet out the door.  None at all.

Not that simple.

These sort of problems happen.

N2G, have you ever run a team, a company, division, branch or any group of people in your career? It's messy, coaching is always about solving problems, they never end, though some do it better than others.

Calling Lavin a fraud, says more about you than him. Don't like the direction of the team, fine! Getting personal, immature.

No, I do not know what he was thinking.  And I don't really have sources, I'm not secretly an assistant coach, and I've never tried to come off as an "insider".  BUt sometimes you do hear things.
And several people all heard similar things, so I don't feel it's right to get on Baldi for crying wolf.
Posters on the other board who went on the Butler trip said they heard it from coach's mouth at a pregame reception that it was a difficult situation and other coaches were contacting Rysheed illegally.     That's not from my mouth, I'm just reporting what several unrelated people said they heard.

The bottomline is Baldi wasn't spouting nonsense.   Rysheed was weighing to leave or not.    For what reasons, and how close he got to going is up for debate.

As Dave points out I'm sure it's not black and white.     And I don't doubt his mom's illness was part of the equation.   But it's not a coincidence that he was weighing to transfer and missed the first game of 2nd semester.

Also, fwiw, I've been giving coach Lavin a lot of credit for keeping Rysheed in the fold, and holding things together.
We get upset that he repeats the same platitudes and cliches, but there's something to be said for the positive environment he creates.   And 19yr old guys can be very fickle, but coach has seemingly kept everybody on the same page.   Obviously that's a very valuable skill for a coach, and it appears Lavin is better at that than most.

Probably was not a coincidence that Lavin ripped the redshirt off Felix for that particular game, started him, gave him about 10 minutes PT, than barely played him in the succeeding games before he had to go home.(Oh that's right Felix had a great week of practice. Must have looked like MJ.)

Since many posters believe Lavin can't see beyond the tip of his nose, I'm sure he couldn't foresee Balamou's mother's illness.  Maybe the plan was to  play him but then his mother got sick and he couldn't meaningfully contribute anything.  I doubt that Lavin just felt like screwing the kid over.

I'm sure he didnt do it just to screw Felix over, but coach's decisions still ended up having that effect.   And for what gain?
Lavin stopped playing Felix long before he left the team to attend to his mom.   The game after he was activated he played a meaningless 3mins.   Against Columbia.
If there was a honest motivation to play Felix because they thought he could contribute, then that doesn't make sense.  (not coincidentally that's when Rysheed rejoined the team)

Just thinking maybe the kid's mom was sick sometime before we found out about it and maybe he was already distracted.  I don't know.  Just speculating.

So if coach new even earlier his mom was sick and he may have to leave that is all the more reason not to pull his redshirt .
