Also, fwiw, I've been giving coach Lavin a lot of credit for keeping Rysheed in the fold, and holding things together.
We get upset that he repeats the same platitudes and cliches, but there's something to be said for the positive environment he creates.   And 19yr old guys can be very fickle, but coach has seemingly kept everybody on the same page.   Obviously that's a very valuable skill for a coach, and it appears Lavin is better at that than most.

We'll see how the season plays out, but I am still angry with him for the environment that caused him to suspend Harrison for the season, and in turn, ruining our NCAA chances. Lavin wants his players to be accountable for their actions.

That's fine, but that applies to Coach Lavin as well. This is his year to make the big jump. He either dances, or he should be fired.

I think creating and maintaining a positive environment is part of a coach's job and I don't think coaches should receive extra accolades for that. It's nearly impossible to win consistently in any sport without maintaining a positive environment around the team/program. Coaches that create negative environments don't last long because they don't win. Norm created a positive environment but didn't win. Lavin seems to be following in those footsteps so far. We need a coach that creates both a positive environment and a winning environment

" but I am still angry with him for the environment that caused him to suspend Harrison for the season"

What does this even mean?  Please move on. Harrison himself even said it was the right move..

While #'s can sometimes be misleading; here are some on Jordan. His shooting has definitely improved.

From 11/18 to 12/31 Jordan was 2 for 14 from the three point line for a 14% 3-pt %.
After 12/31 through, he's 7 for 14 from the three point line for 50%
While he's not taking a ton of three's; it's nice to see him have more success.

Here are his total field goal makes attempts during those periods:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 22 for 65 for for a total field goal % of 33.8%
After 12/31: 36 for 79 for a total field goal % of 45.6%

If you back out the three's from the total field-goals, the shooting from inside the arc has also improved, albeit by a smaller %:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 20 for 51, for a two-point field goal % of 39.2%.
After 12/31: 29 for 65 for a two-point field goal % of 44.6%.

Assists to turnovers (partially a function of how well his team shoots), has not been as improved:
From 11/18 to 12/31: 28 assists to 14 turnovers: 2:1 ratio
After 12/31: 37 assists to 28 turnovers: 1.3:1 ratio

The best  part is Marco said he will get his.  All I see is a freak of an athlete looking to create for his teammates first.  Best player on the team who also plays real D. Wish he made it easier on Steve to play him early but obviously he made it difficult.  More to story than marco told

Don't mind the decreased a/t ratio. He is distributing at a pretty high rate. I'd like to see his apg during that stretch and see where it ranks in conference. I bet pretty high.

@NJHoopsHaven: Big East Player of the Week is Villanova's James Bell. Big East Rookie of the Week is St. John's Rysheed Jordan.

Will this be the first time ever that one team, and one coach,  has had 3 consecutive BE Rookie of the Year award winners?

I hope that happens, that's a stat that even the most critical Lavin detractor can't spin.

Dude can recruit, need proof....oh that's right.....3 straight BE ROY's in the 3 full classes he brought to the school.

Two of them occurring when the Conference was 16 deep and the best in America.

Is he the leader at this point? Who else is in contention. I know the kid from depaul Garrett has good numbers.

Just did some research of the candidates. Thing that Rysheed has done is play his best ball during the conference slate, not sure what the rest have done all together.

Rysheed Jordan :        8.1 pts  3.3 rbs  3.3 asts
Billy Garrett                 11.7 pts  2.3 rbs 3.4 asts
Tommy Hammilton   8.8 pts 5.5 rbs .8 asts
Josh Hart                      8.1   pts  4.3rbs  1.0 asts
Deonta Burton          6.5  pts  2.3 rbs  .6 asts
Jaren Sina                    6.3 pts   1.3 rbs   .2.6 asts
Elijah Brown               6.7 pts   2.4 rbs   1.4 asts

Garrett has the best stats but Rysheed isnt to far behind. If he and St. Johns continue to perform well I think he could get nod. Certainly not a guarantee though.

Is he ever going to be allowed to speak?   or will we always have to just rely on Baldi (who has been quiet lately) to speak for him?

If you see Sheed at a game, say hi.  He will speak back :)
