I don't think it is that Hooper doesn't hustle.  He is just not that quick,  it doesn't mean he isn't putting in effort.

Again up 48-34 and they take their foot off gas.  Give Columbia credit but SJU really needs a killer instinct.

9-3, I'll take it though.  Xavier Tuesday, should be a war.  SJU has won their last 3 trips to the Queen City in the Lavin era...:)

Hopefully they stay in the same hotel...:)

Don't think it was a matter of foot off the gas rather they hit 4 straight 3s and we started playing dumb basketball. Phil penetrates into lane and is wide open and instead of putting up a floater which even if he misses we can crash boards he fires a mid air pass to a big 5 feet away-turnover. Dom tries to rely on his athletic ability by flying to hoop out of control-bricks the shot. Sanchez spinning leaves feet to pass-turnover. Lack of poise and playing under control. On positive note was impressed by how Sheed, Felix, Dom, and Dlo moved their feet and played solid perimeter D. Orlando hit offensive glass. Took good shots. Negative 14-26 fts.

Let's talk about luke petrasek what a steal by Columbia, the kid looks great about two inches taller from last year and plays with great poise and patience. He was an after thought but kid def looks good.
Went to East Northport HS one down over from where I live and I never heard of him until today. Stopped receiving Newsday couple of years ago I guess is why. Nice big who moves well and has nice lefty touch.

I'll take Lavin's substitution patterns over what we had to endure in the past.

They won this game despite missing 12 freebies and their opponent shooting 9 for 18 three's.  They must have done some things well.  The defense at times was pretty impressive.  This team is playing pretty good D (ask Cooney) while scoring at a decent clip.

There's much to look forward to with this bunch.

Watching The Senior O.LAWRENCE in garbage time for KSU Is tough to see ! Would of could of should of type of college basketball career.
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

I think it's both. Hooper doesn't look to do anything other chuck a 3. It's not enough for him to warrant minutes. Obekpa should have started and played a full game. Hooper's minutes can't come at the expense of Obekpa.

Lavin's substitutions were terrible today. As poorly as we played overall, he did a shit job coaching. Why is Sanchez encouraged to go coach to coast? Why do we have line ups w no one that can make a jump shot? What is Lavin trying to achieve with that?

It's Northport High School, not East Northport. I only nitpick because I am a 2005 graduate. I went to watch Petrasek and the Tigers last year. First Northport basketball game I saw live since I was in high school. We won the Long Island championship last year in class AA (same class as Hills West for those who remember the Tobias/Tyler Harris and Tavon Sledge team). It was the first time Northport basketball was relevant since the 90's. He was the star of the team, as he could throw it down easily in the paint and hit the 3 bal. won 1st team all state with Kentan Faceyl. He definitely put on some muscle since high school and should develop into an Ivy League stud

Now I know why the OOC schedule is awful. Lot of work to get done to get where St Johns should be

@ the game today...here are my observations

1) Terrible showing by SJ fans...if it weren't for local Redmen.com and JJ posters we probably have no one there...real shame
2) Refs kept Columbia in game in 1st half
3) Team showed defensive intensity for about 25 minutes and then let down. Teams, like Columbia, require a lot of discipline as they continue to run their stuff for 35 seconds. Too many switches that resulted in mismatches. Many created by Greene who routinely gets beat on/off the ball and never seems to be able to get on top of a screen (Jordan, OTOH, does it effortlessly.) I think these defensive breakdowns resulted in Phil getting limited PT.
4) Jordan looked good, made some very good passes and drives.
5) Branch, in limited minutes, played fairly well...but did have his usual telegraphed giveaway. Branch or Jordan must be in game at all times. We struggled when Phil started running point.
6) Probably should have won this by 15+

Sanchez is probably our best passer other than Jordan. Anytime D'lo goes to the bench, it's a line up that can't make a jump shot. Only thing Lavin can do is not give D'lo a breather, or play the M&M boys at the same time.

I live in Northport  and it's the first I've heard of the kid.  Played really well.
