Anyone notice Erick Barkley at the game.

Yes!  He was with 2 kids.

I don't think it is that Hooper doesn't hustle.  He is just not that quick,  it doesn't mean he isn't putting in effort.

I think it's both. Hooper doesn't look to do anything other chuck a 3. It's not enough for him to warrant minutes. Obekpa should have started and played a full game. Hooper's minutes can't come at the expense of Obekpa.

Lavin's substitutions were terrible today. As poorly as we played overall, he did a shit job coaching. Why is Sanchez encouraged to go coach to coast? Why do we have line ups w no one that can make a jump shot? What is Lavin trying to achieve with that?

Sanchez is probably our best passer other than Jordan. Anytime D'lo goes to the bench, it's a line up that can't make a jump shot. Only thing Lavin can do is not give D'lo a breather, or play the M&M boys at the same time.

I agree that Sanchez is probably our best passer. Still, I don't like it when he ignores the point guard and on the floor and tries to rush a play. It may have been a part of his game that was reliable 7/8 years ago. Now he looks like the old guy at the gym.

Solid game by Jordan especially with 4 fouls at the end of the games. On to BE play worth no major upset loses in the OOC. ...

Ummm if Penn State finishes in the bottom 4 of the Big 10 like they're projected to finish then that will count as a bad loss.  Right now we have 0 good wins and 1 (likely) bad loss.

I don't know what their predicted to do but I thought Columbia was really good. I think they will do well in IVY league. That kind of team will always give us problems. Just needed the win. Only real negative is our end of game free throw shooting is eventually going to hurt us.

They were predicted bottom of the Ivy actually.  But I saw the Mich St game earlier this year and was surprised.

We have been solid at the line all year pretty much.  Not getting concerned just yet there.

As long as Harrison is there it will be fine. I don't care what our % is, who else you trust in a close game? Maybe Greene or Jordan but I would still be nervous. Other than Harrison I think I might feel most comfortable with Pointer for some reason.
Columbia reminded me of those old Carill Pinceton teams.

Rysheed had positive impact today.  when he went out with 4th foul at the 12 minute mark we were up by 8; when he came back with 7 to go we were up by only 1 point.  Was disappointed that Dangelo only took 9 shots but defensively he was very active.

Got figure how to  get more folks to the Barclay Center.  It is a good venue/good site lines/good food choices and lots of places to go outside the arena

Hooper should lose minutes to Felix. I know we've barely seen him, but the kid hustles, and Hooper simply doesn't.

King Crimson has shot 8 for 13 from deep at Barclays and 2 for 13 everywhere else in the universe.  Kudos to Hollywood for having done his homework and giving Max all of the white boy three point shooter minutes.  That's strong coaching right there.

We already lost one game due to our inability to make late game free throws and the Syracuse finish could have ended much differently had we made crunch time FTs

It's very easy to pick 1 FT as an example of 'costing' a game. I don't doubt that Harrison hitting his FT wins us the PSU game. At the Cuse game we were at a 90 percent clip till the last 4 minutes where Sanchez missed 1. Obekpa 1. Harrison 1 and Karr 2. Free throws are a pet peeve of pretty much 75 percent of the posters. Even if there has been considerable improvement this year

And to answer WASJU Harrison and Jordan are only guys I want touching the ball end of game. After those two I trust Sanchez and Phil from the line but neither get there enough

I'd take Felix over Hooper any day, and possibly Lipscomb too. I can't stand a player that plays zero defense. His success today was due to one shot he took. There's more to the game than a single jumper.

- Most importantly,  rumor mill silenced as Jordan starts, smiles and contributes.  Crisis averted.

- Strong defensive effort by us.  Played 94 feet of man to man mostly and all were engaged and worked hard.  8 blocks and protected the rim passionately.

- Still they shot 8 - 16 from 3?  I have no explanation why teams continue to have there best downtown shooting performance of the year against us.

- Poor FT shooting kept this from looking like a better win.  You switch our 53% with their 80% and you have a comfortable double digit win. Even our usually reliables like the hexagon and Air Jordan go a combined 1 for 5.

- Speaking of FT's.  To Sir with Love goes to the line for 2 with 3 seconds remaining and the Johnnies holding a 6 point lead.  The point spread is 7.  Clank...Clank...easy come easy go.

- Hollywood gets an ever rare, and seemingly quick, technical foul.  After perhaps only one or two civil exchanges with the ref that spends more time in the gym than reading the rule book, the more senior official T's em up with hardly any exchange at all.  Somebody on the bench other than Lavin might have dropped a magic word.  Seemed to help as it prompted a  9 -2 run for us.

- A turnover total of 8 for us.  That will keep us in any game.

- Didn't see EB and his kids.  Why can't the public address announcer acknowledge when our legends are in the house?

I know that this excuse hasn't been floated before.  Penn State was using extreme FT distraction techniques when 3'lo went to the line to win the game with 1 second left.  A Penn State player directly behind D'lo was making a lot of noise and leaning into the circle and motioning to distract him.  The trail ref stepped forward and spoke to the Penn State player trying to prevent it during the second attempt but the damage was already done.  I'm surprised he made one.

We stood there like silent statues when the Lion guard went 3 for 3 to give them the lead with 6 seconds remaining.

8 blocks and 0 were from Obekpa

Lav said the magic word to get t'ed up

Not an SJU home game so no chance for EB love

Go Penn state then!
The question will be is why of all years did we pick a softer schdule OOC. Is it because the BE was supposed to be tougher?
We do well in BE play then the question is moot.

I couldn't see the game today, I'm going to watch the dvr on Sunday, but Ive been pointing that out too..that statistically our foul shooting has been much improved, and relatively middle of the road compared to top 25 teams.  much better than last year, despite the crucial misses at the end of some key games.

My concern though is how much of our improvement is because we've played nearly all home games so far?  are we going to revert back to sub-70% when we start playing every other game in an opponents building?   Idk.   I hope not.

If it was a good venue, people would go. It's a terrible venue, so people don't want any part of it. We were told for years about this Russian billionaire. This is what that f*ck built? It looks like an airport. On a scale of 1-10, I give it a 3. I give alumni hall a 6, and MSG a 9.

Honestly, I'd rather go to Long Island, or even Newark to see a game.

The public address announcer didn't acknowledge Barkley, because this isn't a home game. Another reason why we shouldn't be playing in this arena. The others reasons being the arena is a shitbox, it's in the middle of nowhere, and it's insanely overpriced. $9.75 for a hot dog?

I can only hope that Jay Z suffers financially from building this atrocity, but I doubt the city will ever give him what he really deserves.
