Just wondering, who do you guys feel was the player with the best "basketball IQ" to play at St johns in say the last 20 yrs? not best player.

Good question. My answer might surprise some but I am going with Barkley

Tough to pick one player.  Since I come from the 2000-present era I'm gonna say

Hatten
Hardy

  I'd go with Barkley also.  Always seemed to make the right pass to the right guy without too much flash.

 By the time he was a senior, Postell was a pretty high IQ player also.

Tie between Erick King and Sean Evans.

OK just kidding.

  I am going to go with Bootsy Thornton. 

Ty Grant would be a pretty good choice as well

Agree with Barkley, but I think Bootsy is right there with him, if not higher. I remember watching Bootsy in the first half of the 98=99 season.
He didn't force anything.

Played a careful game, and took good shots. He was also probably the best offensive rebounder for a 2 guard that we've ever had. Early on, you barely noticed him, but by the end of the game, he filled up the stat sheet. The guy just knew where to be on offense, and truth be told, became a strong defender under Jarvis.

That whole team just played great together. People might think this is crazy becuase he is crazy but Artest was also a smart basketball player.

Made a stupid decision but imagine if you could have put Cook on Elite 8 team instead of Barkley. Would they have the same success, been worse, better? I think if you would have surrounded Omar with better talen the would have been a great college basketball player.

 That Barkley, Artest, Bootsy team was basically the last time I enjoyed a St. John's basketball season. Well, probably the Hatten years right after that.. point being, it has sucked for a long time.

I second that.  First person who came to mind.

It's true.  I was close to putting him as my 3rd name from 2000 on.  He was too smart for that team.  Only one he really had a connection with was Willie.  Rest of the guys were hit or miss with his passes.

I became a fan in 1997, graduated in 2010 so the highest IQ player I saw was Bootsy.

Sad that other then Dwight Hardy guys are going back 12-15 years for players with a high basketball IQ

Of the recent players besides Hardy I would go with DJ Kennedy.
I would also throw in Brownlee if not for his untimely stroll at end of BET game against Rutgers

I dont go back to bootsys and them.

It might be crazy but I think it could be D'lo. I think for all the slack he gets for putting up shots that he really knows how to play the game. I only watched the first 10 minutes of the game against gtown (first time ive ever done that) but he had a box out that was so good he forced an over the back on a gtown big. No one else is doing that, no one else on our team is really smart.
