The last few calls sucked for us, but we still could have won. McD is a special player who made a ton of special plays. If there is a silver lining in this sh!t storm, it's how Jordan was taking charge and trying to make plays at the end and (finally) hitting those clutch FT's. Obekpa too showed me more tonight than he has in a while. Hopefully we can keep it up against Marq.

I know it was a foul on the defense, but how dangerous will Jordan be when he learns to use his left hand?   Everyone in the building knew he was driving hard right.  He needs to be able to pull up, or go left.  That'll be the next step for his development.

it is beyond me how we leave the kid who ended with 39 out of 63points wide open with the game tied under 10 seconds.. what the hell its either these kids have a hard time processing assignments or there was real bad coaching there. how in the world dont you let any other guy in the gym besides MCD beat us. im sorry i think the guys are to blame on that one. i cant imagin elavin didnt stress a million and one times in the huddle that any body but MCD beats us. that was horrible.

It was Obekpa. He got block happy. Thought the PG was gonna drive so he cheated into the lane. He was assigned to Doug

True but D'lo deserves some of the blame as well. It was his man who set the screen on CO, which I felt was a offensive foul by the way, he was completely oblivious out there on that play. We were switching on screens all game.

Again, the game should have been over before that.  The "last" play should never have happened...

Lots of excuses and rationalizations. Team is good enough to win this type of game and got out-adjusted out of the half and then blew the most critical defensive assignment on the deciding possession of the game.  Lost the game and that's it.

McDermott is "Mullinesque".  Can't wait to see him in person in the Garden.  Only thing good we can take out of this is now all the remaining games are in February and March when team is supposed to peak.

Almost like they knew CO would wander into the lane to go for the block.  Great play call by Creighton.
Another lavin coaching blunder. Obekpa has to be guarding the inbound pass and Sampson has to be on Doug. There's just no excuse for that
That is not on Lavin!!

Are you out of your mind? When you break from that time out the question has to be asked who is guarding who. Coming out of that time out there is absolutely no reason you do not put your biggest man on the inbounds pass and your most athletic big on dougie to contest the shot. It probably does not matter who was guarding him because dougie probably hits that shot but out of the timeout it's the coaches job to say who is guarding who.

Stepping back from emotion of heartbreaker, what will always hurt us is most of our scoring comes from steals or turnovers. Our abysmal outside shooting & half court offense results in droughts which put us behind eight ball. It is what it is, but quite a handicap for sure.

Yup, going into next year the coaches need to develop an offense for this team. We are a very easy team to defend in the half court

Did you see Mullin play at St.John's?

We got #$%^ed on the last two calls.  McDermott hooked his man.  Then rysheed gets a bogus charge.  Its game.  It was our game.  Refs #$%^ed us in this one.

Hit a outside 3pt shot like that you can't blame the refs...

The Rysheed charge was criminal. That was a 4 pt. swing.

Despite that the gam was tied...it's like the 49ers blaming the blown fumble call on why they lost the game. The got the ball back and scored and had a chance to win the game. Te 49ers blew the game not the refs...this game should have went into OT...

Refs can influence a game. It happened tonight. MCDermott is great, but if Rysheed isn't called for a charge there, we win IMO.

Bull sheit.  We should have won. Close games don't come down to how close we are.  We were tied and we got screwed.  Then we drove the court with rysheed and were screwed again.  I don't care about what we could have done after that.  Mcdermott's last shot should never have happened if even reasonably reffed in the last few.

We showed resolve.  We came back and did what we need to win.  Then we had it taken from us with total BS.  I'm sorry.  I don't think anybody can say those last two calls were legit.

Bad mentality to have.  We DIDN'T do what we needed to do to take this game to overtime.  We blew the most critical assignment on the deciding possession of the game (whether that's on the staff or on Obekpa alone, I'm not sure.  I would guess Obekpa).  We also got out-adjusted out of the half.  Good teams often overcome games in which they don't get some calls.  We had a chance to take this to OT and blew an assignment.  It's another loss.  No excuses and no rationalizations.  That's what programs with losing cultures do.

You may have misread my post.  I agree the last two calls were BS, and if not called, we might have won. But we still could have won if we made the plays at the end.  We didn't.  McDermott did, and we lost.

The hook doesn't get called enough.   It was a foul on McDermott, obviously, but that's not something that is called consistently.    Should it be?   Maybe.   But 8/10 I think no call is made on that.

The Jordan play I agree was bs.   He drove into a crowd, and it wasn't a smart play, but it was obviously a defensive foul.

At the end of the day though MCN you can't just look at calls in the last two mins.   There were calls in the 8th min that went our way, and those 2pts count just as much.   Obekpa traveled, Jordan traveled ...no calls.    You can say the refs took it away from us, but they also "gave" us 4 pts earlier in the half.

All said  the refs were A factor in why we lost.   McDermott was another factor.   So was Sampson needing to double dribble on the wing.
There are always multiple reasons why you win, and multiple reasons why you lose.

What about the play Rysheed made? He made a play, but was incorrectly declared illegal for some reason.

McDermott should have been called for hooking Obekpa at the end of the game. He gets away with murder. I hope he gets drafted in the lottery, and towards the top so some stupid NBA team can watch him stink up the place. I don't care how good Creighton is. St.John's shouldn't lose to any school from such a pathetic city. But I'm sure STJ Twitter is live tweeting from the puddle jumper they are about to board. So at least we'll close out something strong tonight.

I'll admit, a lot falls of what's happened this year falls on Lavin.  But you have no clue what you're talking about in this instance!!

If you watch the final sequence again....we applied light full court pressure.  We let them inbound the ball.  Therefore, who guards the inbounder is irrelevant. If you think we should have played full out trapping press, then that's your opinion and you can blame that on Lavin.

It's pretty clear that CO just got lost on his assignment thinking the guard was going to the hoop.  I'm not blaming Lavin for this one.

Please enlighten me on your thoughts of the rationale for the man to man assignments on the last play that coach decided to go with. Your missing my point. I don't blame lavin for Doug hitting that shot. I blame him for not having his players in the best situation to not lose the game with 11 seconds left. Are you more afraid of wraggie or Doug there. Easy decision if you ask me

For those saying Creighton drew that play up because they knew obekpa would cheat into the lane leaving McDermott, that play was designed because they thought both guys would chase McDermott over the screen leaving the screener wide open for a layup. That may have happened had obekpa not cheated

I would have had Dom in the game instead of D'Lo.  But I thought Lavin's assignments were fine.

Our best big defender was guarding their best offense player.  Seems pretty straight forward assignment wise to me!!  Lavin can't hold CO's hand once the play starts!!  Again....watch the replay, you'll see what im talking about.
