McDermott is "Mullinesque".  Can't wait to see him in person in the Garden.  Only thing good we can take out of this is now all the remaining games are in February and March when team is supposed to peak.

Did you see Mullin play at St.John's?
YES--all four years and as a senior at XHS--both players have this very smooth; effortless way of shooting.  Both are not what someone would call great athletes but they are pure shooters who can hit from anywhere

Mullin was also a great passer and a good rebounder. In addition I think Mullin might be able to beat McDermott in a race. McDermott reminds of a Duke white guy. Alarie, or Ferry. Not Laettner. Great college player. Beautiful shot. 12th, 13th man in pros. Best case scenerio for him would be Matt Bonner, Steve Novak role.

win that game and we were back on the bubble.

On the bubble? Good grief. We're on the bubble of Division II. We're 12-9 and 2-6 in conference. We're 3 and 6 in 2014. The phrase you're looking for is "we suck." We'll be lucky to make the NIT.

You are correct Sir.
I imagine they would they need to play above .500 over the last 10 games to make the NIT.

STJ will get to 8 conference wins before they get to 8 conference losses.

   :2funny:

I'm serious, you will see. They are going to rip off 6 in a row now.

I don't believe it's out of the relm of possibility. Marq is going to be tough though. If every team played us defensively the way Creighton did however, we will be in trouble. Sanchez is turning out to be a disappointment.

The one thing about this year, unlike past years, is that SJU could actually win the conference tournament. Obviously, it's not the ideal situation, to have to rely on winning that Tournament, but it's actually possible this season unlike any season in the last ten years.

These teams in the BE aren't any good either. We can easily win 6 in a row. At Prov will be tough

Any chance of adopting the old "one game at a time" approach? Sheez!

Go at least 6-1; win 6 in a row;   win the Big East tournament.... of course these things are possible, but I really don't understand what makes you guys think any of them are even remotely likely.   I could win the lotto, but I don't talk about it because it's almost certain that I won't.  The same could be said for some of those outcomes for SJU.

Someone mentioned being an optimist, and I get that.   But some of you look at half of a glass and say it's a full glass!   That's not being an optimist that's being delusional.

Careful.  I predicted a 5 game winning streak earlier with the schedule softening. Still trying to get the yolk out of my beard.

+1.....not like the old Big East having to win 4 or 5 games of which at least 2 would usually have been against top 10 teams. Still unlikely but a possibility. Nova is the only team that I think is much better than us. Will be interested to see how we play them in Philly. Maybe win 7 of remaining 10, go in with some momentum, avoid Nova until the finals, it's possible.

My goal for this team is to finish in the top 6 in the Big East so we get a bye into the Qtr Finals in the Big East Tourney.  Not saying its going to happen but why can't we win 3 games on the home floor in the Big East Tourney?  If we win that first game I could see a real home court advantage with all the tickets still available

Wally was a better athlete. Don't get me wrong the kid is avery good college player, but if I were to bet I'd say he struggles at next level.

I think DOUG makes a good pro on the right team.. He's a smart , heady player and there is always a place in the league for that kind of player.

Yes, we could finish the season on a mini roll and maybe, get close to .500 but, the flaws of this team are not likely to hold up over 3 or 4 games in a tournament, enough to win the championship.

We also have the type of team that could lose the first BE Tourney game too.. We're too inconsistent to expect a  run against more balanced teams.

Doug has a lot of similarities to Adam Morrison. Great college players because they can shoot the lights out and can get by most college defenders but will have a trouble with bigger and quicker NBA players, like Morrison

Pretty  sure Doug has a more advanced post game than Morrison ever had

I'm higher on McDermott's NBA potential then most. Not a franchise changer but I think he has the ability to be a very good pro

We can win 3 in a row. We are the home team, and this year have depth. Thing is we gotta have 2 guys on the court who can score. D'lo, Sampson, Jordan, must give us about 45. Points gatta come from somewhere. We seen enough to know there is know one else we can count on 10 for. This team wins with D. Junk yard dog mentality must set in. Some points of the glass would help. Who can turn into DuJuan Blair?

Omaha World-Herald:  St. John’s shows signs of how good it can be

After the close call, Creighton coach Greg McDermott was asked how dangerous St. John’s might be in mid-March at the conference tournament if it could find a way to fire on all cylinders.

“I think they’re a dangerous team right now,” McDermott said. “This is a very talented and capable basketball team. They’re getting better.

“I think I heard coach Lavin say in December that this is going to be a good team in February. Well, they’re a good team before February.”
