The Sign of a Not So Good Basketball Team
« on: January 29, 2014, 11:51:38 AM »
This team is always playing from behind because they never can play a complete basketball game. Lavin's rotations were mind boggling last night how at times they had no scorers on the floor at all.
St John's is 3-9 against Major Conference Teams but even more astonishing is the deficits this team has had to try to overcome in each game.  This team plays good in spurts and then gets manhandled in other parts of the game and that's why they get themselves in such major holes.

Deficits in each Game (3-9)

Wisconsin-      18
Penn State-     15
Georgia Tech- 15
Syracuse-        14
Xavier-             11
Georgetown- 33
Villanova-        9
DePaul-            7
Providence-    12
Seton Hall-     10
Butler-             10
Creighton-      18

This is the sign of a bad basketball team.  Every game but 2 they have been down by double digits and the 2 that they weren't they were down 9 and 7.  They have still not beaten a single good team all year and possibly 2 years if you go back and look.  Good teams sometimes never trail in games this team lives and dies by the huge deficit.

He needs to go ASAP

Right...fire Lavin now and let the unsupervised kids go to the Bada Bing.

That'll help the program.

He could be fired at the end of the season. That should be what ASAP means. He's a bad teacher. He's a bad strategist. He's a good recruiter, but so was Brian Mahoney.

The Sign of a Not So Good Poster:

He shows up only after losses, and only has a single point that he likes to rephrase as much as possible.

To me, ASAP means as soon as possible.  I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season.  I also don't want a mid major coach to lead our mid major program.  We're falling into Fordham territory already.

BTW, Mahoney was a significantly better recruiter than Lavin who has yet to bring in a McDonald's AA.

Right, and from where he started he deserves a go round with some more recruits before wanting to can him. He talked the players up because thats his style. No one here wanted to buy the picks for 7th in the BE that that was what it was. I'm concerned with how this team finishes up, a the couple of recruits I hope come in. I'm not glued to lavin, but players gatta play. Who you guys happy with? I would love to see CO's game jump up.

Jarvis made sju irrelevant, not Roberts.  He was a good bench coach in an untenable position after the scandal/sanctions.  SJU was put in a position which could have turned into SMU football.  He recruited second tier players, did ok considering and left Lavin a good team.  Get rid of Lavin and get a coach, not a PR man

Sorry but not wanting a mid major coach is a joke. There are a lot of quality coaches in the mid majors that can make it.

The guy is filled with hot air and the day after the season is over gone good bye.  The entire staff needs to be shown the door and then maybe just maybe this team can have an above .500 record in conference next year. Play your best players not all these scrubs that somebody has hyped the heck out of.

Tarik Turner or Rysheed Jordan? Felipe Lopez or D'Angelo Harrison? Jakarr Sampson or Zendon Hamilton? Chris Obekpa or Mike Mennefield? Ed Brown or God's Gift? Significantly better? I think not. Lavin has more well rounded collection of players. Mahoney never recruited a BE point guard. I like Tarik, but he was a Northeast Conference level talent.
