Where we should be...
« on: February 05, 2014, 07:12:46 AM »
In reality, we should be 17 - 6, 6 - 4 in league..    we should have beaten Penn State, DePaul and Providence first time...

The bad losses really have the chance to burn us down the road. If we had taken care of business early, this could have easily been a 22 - 23 win team in the end.

Right now, we need to beat either Creighton or Nova and not loss any other games...

I would think our only chance to make the NCAA at this point is to win 7/8 and make finals of Big East Tournament...

7 of 8 for sure.  Not sure if BE finals is imperative at that point.  But if they are winning 7 of 8 it's probably not an issue we should be having.  Plus committee always looks kindly to teams on a roll

Margin of error doesn't exist. They need to be perfect

You don't think they can lose 7 games in conference?  I'm not exactly a beacon of confidence of late but I do think they can afford 1 more loss in conference.

10-8   and a decent showing in BE Tournament showing could do it.

Not sure I agree.  I think 22 wins any which way gets them in.  6-2 down the stretch and 2 BET wins puts them at 22-12.  With their SOS/RPI, I think that's on the right side of the bubble.

Just imagine if Lavin would have figured out that he should play his prized frosh from last season and his prized frosh this season more and Greene, walkons and poor Felix less before February where would we be now.

With no signature wins? Splits with Creighton & Nova wouldn't be and that is assuming they do. 22 wins doesn't even cut it now a days.

We need to win the BE tourney...  So, in reality,  the rest of the regular season is meaningless,  W/L wise.   Of course you want to be playing best ball come tourney time..

If the Big East is going to get four teams...

Villanova and Creighton would get in as at-large even if they don't win the BET.
Providence is assumed to be in today.
That leaves Xavier,  Marquette, Gtown, Hall and St Johns competing for the last spot. We play those other six down the stretch.

If we want it, its there for the taking.

I don't think it is meaningless. As Moose said the committee likes teams who are rolling, not limping in.

My point is we need to win the BE tournament..  The committee then has no choice, limp or no limp...  right?   I don't think we run the table.

I think this team needs to make up for bad losses with strong unexpected wins. They need to beat either Creighton or Nova, and win two games in the BE. I think if we do that, 10-8 would earn us the 9 seed play in game.

They took their foot off the gas last night. It's still a work in progress. If they realize that they still need to keep improving, it can be done, but there is still a mountain to climb, and Lavin has left very little wiggle room with his awful coaching in close games.

We need teams like like Marq, Xavier  and providence to win in conference to help our rpi record vs teams in top 50.  Let's say we go 11-7 in conf, a win against nova and or creighton and 22 wins, assuming a few wins in big east tourney we have a strong case as a bubble team to be in.

If prov, creighton, Xavier and prov can get in top 50 overall rpi and we have final record  against them of 4-4 or 3-5, makes our conf record look much better.  Key is also sweeping, butler, shu and marq.  All wins at this point help our cause regardless of who we beat, because like a few said, a team playing strong to finish season is big in the eyes of committee.

Anything less than 11-7 regular season and 2 BET wins and we wont hear our name on selection Sunday. I dont care what "conference RPI" says, the Big East is not looked at as a good conference. Jon Rothstein didn't have the BE in his top 6 conferences last night and hes not wrong

I agree the numbers aren't the end all be all but not in the Top 6 is BS on his part.
