Anything less than 11-7 regular season and 2 BET wins and we wont hear our name on selection Sunday. I dont care what "conference RPI" says, the Big East is not looked at as a good conference. Jon Rothstein didn't have the BE in his top 6 conferences last night and hes not wrong

I agree the numbers aren't the end all be all but not in the Top 6 is BS on his part.

I agree we are better than the A-10 but what conferences is the BE better than? Obviously not the Big 12, Big 10 or ACC, the Pac 12 is way improved and has several NCAA teams and the AAC is also a 10 team league and they are getting definitely 4 and probably 5 teams into the dance. We are probably getting 3. Understanding its not easy to compare a 10 team league to a 16 team league like the ACC but which of those 5 conferences is the BE better than?

ACC is only looking at 4 teams now.  Again that is now a lot can change.  Big East is better than SEC for sure.  AAC has 5 teams that are good but the rest are dreadful.  Where BE has 2 elite then a bunch all mixed up until the last 1-2.

Margin of error doesn't exist. They need to be perfect

Completely false.  They can lose one and still finish 11-7 in the third highest leage in the RPI.  People need to stop looking at our win total in a vaccum.  We don't play in the AAC, where you get ten freebies against teams with RPIs 147 and lower (we are 9-0 against teams with RPIs over 112).  In addition to the win total, the selection committee will look at the strenght of the conference (3rd it he country), recent success (they'd be on a complete tear at 20-22 wins), SOS (#33 in the country before Creighton, Xavier, Nova, Gtown), and RPI (a very solid 63 relative to the win total.  We jumped ten spots in the RPI with a win over Providence...what do you think will happen with a win over Creighton? Xavier? Gtown? Nova?  Running the table would put this team's RPI in the top 25.
There are no freebies in this Big East.  None.

What makes a conference good exactly?  Top to bottom Big East is the most balanced conference.  The 2nd worst team in the conference, per KenPom, is in the top 100, and the best 2 teams are in the top 10.  If your methodology is focused solely on NCAA bids, Big East probably won't fare well.  But that doesn't mean it isn't a top 5 conference in the country.

(we are 9-0 against teams with RPIs over 112).

So we're 5-9 against teams with RPIs under 112. How will the committee view that?

While I know the committee doesnt admit it publicly, I believe at least some members take the KenPom rankings into at least a little bit of consideration when determining the field. Kenpom currently has us 44th in the country ahead of teams like Xavier, Missouri, New Mexico, LSU, and Baylor. Nova and Creighton are the only BE teams ahead of us, both in the top 10

So we're 5-9 against teams with RPIs under 112. How will the committee view that?

If they were to decide right now, not very favorably.  However, we've beaten four of the last five teams we've faced in that category, and lost to #10 on the road on a buzzer-beater.

We'd at least even that # by going 7-1 to finish, as nearly every single team will be in that range.

If they win Sunday, then the bubble talk is more feasible. Until then it is a pipe dream.

I think we need to beat both Nova and Creighton during the regular season, plus 2 games in the BE touney to be considered a bubble candidate.  Gtown already has 2 wins against top 10 teams (at the time they played), and chances are Gtown will beat Nova or Creighton before the end of the season, so between us and Gtown, they are the better bet for an at large bid.

One at a time...  Nothing else matters..  Nothing behind and nothing in front of Creighton on Sun.. matters

It has been fun to watch this team again.

Where are the JJ power couple?   Needs2Go and Linda?  Amazing how they always get " busy" after wins and can't post.. Schedule completely opens up after  losses.   Fascinating..

We have Gtown at MSG.  They have better big wins, but they have terrible losses.  We have no terrible losses, but no big wins YET.

It doesn't have to come down to us or them.  If we both win, we can easily slide past Xavier and even Providence for the third and fourth bids.

Be prepared for a vicious attack from Linda.  I got one when I mentioned her disappearance earlier.  I can't understand why one proclaims themselves a fan of a team but only spews venom and hate toward that team.  Just go root for another one.

Honestly, I know there are people who hate on St. John's for not hiring Tom Pecora.  Smh!

Hope you're right Marillac.  FWIW, I consider our losses to DePaul and Penn St as terrible losses

While the Big East has several solid teams, the issue is that it only has 2 top tier teams, wins against which are going to be held in high regard by the committee. We currently have no signature wins.  As Dave said, we only have 2 opportunities to get them, and we need to win both to ensure a spot in the tournament.

The larger problem is whether this becomes a trend in future years - the Big East only having 2 top 25 teams at any one time.

If the trend continues, then the athletic department is going to need to aggressively schedule 3 traditional top-level out of conference opponents each year - Duke, MSU, Cuse, Louisville, Florida, Kentucky, Kansas, etc

What 6 conferences are better than the BE? The Big 12, the Big Ten, The Pac 12, The ACC (maybe) and that's it. The SEC is garbage. They have one great team, one hugely overrated team in UK, and one sleeper in Missouri. They rest are no better than an NIT team on their best day.

An argument could be made that the AAC with Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, UCONN is doing just as well as the BE.
