No to be honest I don't think we wore them down at all I saw them miss one wide open look after another and brick one foul shot after another.

Sampson did a great job blanketing Sampson but Dougie still hit his average.

The other players came up real small and St Johns on a normal night could have lost this game by 8.

The rest of the team besides Doug

13-38 FGs most wide open looks
10-20 FTS  ouch

Lets not kid ourselves guys Creighton played terrible so not sure if you guys were watching the same game as me or you watched it through foggy glasses but if Creighton plays anywhere near what they are capable we don't win that game.  Besides Harrison once again it looked like they put a lid over out basket for the last 10 minutes.

Good win over a good team but once again this fan base doesn't know how to take things in stride.  We are still 5-6 in league with one quality win all year.  Our league will get no more than 4 teams in and probably only 3 so pipe down with this contract extension talk until we prove something.
Get real--look at the 2 games.  CU averaged 64 points per game.  They are a team that averages 82 Points per game.  I guess we played them when they all had tummy aches in 2 games.

Needs to go must. Telling fans to pipe down because we are enjoying the win nervy and nasty. Mr. To Go, do you tell fans at the game to pipe down?

Yes Jr I actually stand right in front of the student section and wave both my arms down the entire game trying to quiet everyone down.  Place was a ghost town last night so much for a sleeping giant that still seems to be sleeping.

"The St. John's victory certainly doesn't make this season an instant success – the early-season hole was too deep. But the recent surge from the Johnnies at least offers hope that they may dig their way out, something that seemed impossible only a few weeks ago.

Throw in the fact that St. John's hasn't executed well late in close games and that their veterans still have shown a penchant for silly fouls and ill-advised decisions with the ball in their hands, and it's easy to see why the Johnnies are struggling. There's more than enough talent for St. John's to win some games in the Big East, but a return to the NCAA tournament now is a major long shot. An 0-5 league start is simply too deep a hole in a conference with as much parity as the Big East."

@JeffEisenberg: Left for dead four weeks ago, St. John’s is climbing back into NCAA contention. http://t.co/c1JGShtJaW

No credit that maybe, just maybe our defense caused such a bad game?

Did you actually watch the game or do you remember any of it?

I just kept cringing at all the wide open looks Creighton got waiting for one of them to fall but they just never did.  We are atrocious at defending the 3 and they shot 4-20?  10-20 from the FT line find me another game where they did this.  13-38 on a ton of wide open looks.  Creighton was awful last night and if you watched the game and took off those foggy red glasses you wore you would have easily noticed this.

Paultzman, I didn't mean to call you out I was just using you as an example of how this fan bases basketball iq's are about as low as some of our players (Dom, Branch, Orlando)

Wasn't the the point for both games against Creighton, to have the others beat us and not just McDermott?  SJU coaches saw after the first game, Creighton was not going to beat us unless McDermott went off for 39 again and we did not let that happen.  So in essence, by putting more pressure on McDermot, we put the ball in others hands and they missed shots.  Exactly what our staff expected.  Its no different, then when we lost some tough games, and other schools took the ball out of Harrisons hands and made guys like Dom and Sanchez take game winning shots.

Was JR sick last night?  He wasn't launching the way he usually does.  Also, Legend locked down McD-League in the first half.

So rdstr25, Lavin and the great staff knew Creighton was going to miss all those wide open shots that they normally hit?

Don't kid yourself buddy

Didn't take it that way. If I did, I would have suggested we get together.

To say that a team missed shots that they normally would hit is the most nonsensical comment.  Unless a player shoots 80% from the field there is no normally.  Also, we .  Half out physicaled them last night half those BlueJays had broken wings

Creighton no doubt had a bad shooting game, and from the line, they were uncharacteristically bad.  But you can't say SJU's defense had nothing to do with Creighton's bad shooting.  It's like saying putting a lot of pressure on a good QB has no effect on how he is throwing the ball, or making reads in the pocket. SJU put consistent pressure on all of the Creighton shooters, and it obviously affected them.  We were the recipient of good luck in that their FT shooting sucked, but we made our own good luck by hustling on defense more often than not yesterday.

All this back and forth...the main thing is to mark another in the Win column and move on to the next game and prepare to win another game.

Yes, Creighton had some open looks.  Point is the heavy pursuit is there off high screens, back screens, etc.  You don't need to acknowledge it because I doubt you will, but I was specifically watching for the guys to aggressively pursue. There's a noticeable difference, even from 2 weeks ago.

Needs to Go, Obviously, they cant look into a crystal ball and see what shots are going to go in and not go in, but the point i was making was the staff wanted the other guys to beat them and they didnt.  End of story!!!  With the game on the line in the final minutes, the guys missing free throws (brooks 63% FT shooter) Manigat (2 for last 10 shooting 3's) and Gibbs a 33% 3 point shooter.  You think its coincidence they just happen to miss these shots and had the ball in crunch time?  Numbers dictate they just arent consistent enough to hit shots and the staff knew that, which is why they made sure Mcdermot had no shot of beating us again.

Don't even respond.  Kid is clueless.  CU is highest scoring team in BE and twice we held them way below their season average.   Stats don't lie.

Being unable to admit you are occasionally wrong is a terrible trait.

CU is over. We did what we had to do.. Get a statement win.  Past can't be changed.. Future is right their in front of them.. Seton Hall next.

Ok I am busy at work and could just do the last 4 games quick but welcome anyone to go back at prior Creighton games to back up my point about their supporting cast being more than capable to pick up the slack when necessary

DePaul
17-35 FG
6-7 FT
6-19 3's

St John's
8-21 FG
6-10 FT
2-7 3's

Gtown
19-37 FG
18-24 FT
6-16 3's

Nova
25-45 FG
8-12 FT
16-27 3's

Yeah they are not capable of doing anything if you shut down McDermott.  Get a clue already and stop trying to deflect the obvious that Creighton shot the balol awfully last night and probably the worst they have in the last 2 years.  Just go back and watch the game to see how many open looks and Fts they missed last night.  St Johns has been terrible at defending the 3 ever since Lavin took over as teams always have special nights against us or teams that were cold from 3 all of a sudden get hot because they cant believe how open they are.

4-20 last night mostly on wide open looks and you want to commend their defense and game plan.  Dougie went off for 40 and was a one man show in the first game the rest of the team didn't play bad they just weren't needed.  Last night they crapped themselves.
