Prime Time Shootout
« on: February 07, 2014, 09:25:01 PM »
Staff should be spending all day there tomorrow and some of the day Sunday IMO.

Staff should be worrying about the game that will make or break our NCAA chances.  They can't even make contact with the players.  All they can do is sit in the stands and watch.

A staff member should be there. Pitt will have someone there for Diallo. Often schools will at least send an assistant coach if practice or game prep takes priority for HC. Two of our top 15 kids will be there. You don't need to have contact. Just let those kids see you. Cooley was on a plane to West Virginia immediately after his last game to do likewise with a prime recruit. Last  year I saw him at a game in my town the day before a big BE game for Providence.  His constant trips to see this kid, Pascal C., had a positive results.

So then I guess no coaches will be there.  Please.  We should have representation at a premier event with so many HS teams out there.  There is a big picture too that you and quite a few other fans are ignoring as this recent stretch of games has clouded your vision.

I think it would be great if the staff focused on doing the job at hand first, before paying an ounce of attention to these potential recruits. The evidence of success from the current team should be his recruiting tool now. Otherwise there is no reason to believe anything Lavin says.

So, I hope all of these high school kids have fun this whatever it is, but they are moved to commit to a program simply because a coach or two show up, then ok, they go f themselves because we do not need 15 year old girls who respond to doting.

Whether you or any of us like it or not, a lot of these kids are 15 year old girls who thrive on doting.  They're fed attention, and can take it as a slap in the face when a coach they might want to play for doesn't show up to a game.  Some of us forget that these recruits are kids.  Most kids love attention, especially if they're surrounded by people telling them how great they are their whole lives.

It's not unreasonable to think at least Chiles our recruiter should be there

Thank you. It is not likely the entire staff has to be in the "bunker" preparing for Creighton. Certainly Chiles' absence for at least part of Saturday will not hamper game preparation.  Guessing, if the event was in NYC, someone would be there.

If the event was AT Carnesecca Arena I still don't know if staff would be there.

Lavin wasn't at the pre game presser yesterday ( at least not what I saw) my guess he was away recruiting somewhere?

Ha! Patrick Sellers, the ex UConn AC who took the fall in Myles case, is doing a good job mining the East for players.

Now, half the board will complain Coach Lavin wasn't preparing for tomorrow's game.

Hey- don't blame those who felt he should be recruiting.  Blame those who felt he shouldn't be out there because of the 'task at hand'

I am not blaming anyone.  I think Coach Lavin and his team are doing a good job.
