@ Seton Hall - Player of the Game
« on: February 13, 2014, 11:54:30 PM »
[note: stats to be added Fri]

Tough call, but I'll give it to CO for nailing his foul shot and playing good D on the inbounds.   Jordan's passing though got him a great look.

Obekpa played poor defense most of the game so I don't know if I can give it to  him. I think Harrison made the fewest mistakes of anyone and came up with a huge block and made big FT's. I'll give it to him.

Gave it to Sheed for his great passing all game and his jump shooting in the first half

Oblockpa.  We were better with him in than out; 100% from the field; bothered some shots and not all of those could have been goal tending; hit the game winner; and knocked down the quarterbacks crucial last pass!

My vote is a bit unorthodox but I'm going with Dom Pointer. The way he closed out the first half kept SJU alive and gave them the chance to win this in the 2nd half.

I took the Dom Pointer approach to offensive rebounding and just said screw it.
How could you vote for Pointer?  Because SH was crappy enough to allow him to recover from his sloppy miscues before he made a shot or pass?  Because the refs missed 3-4 traveling calls on him?  As it was, he had tree turnovers.

You realize we played 5-4 all night on offense because of him, and that hindered Jordan's ability to drive and our inside offense, right?  You realize he gave up like 6-7 layups, right?  Swap Dom out for Paris Horne and we'd easily have 20 wins.

Big Chris.  Came through offensively (never thought I would say that).  Not to mention at least two of the goal tending calls were clear blocks.

Jordan.  More than anyone else without our floor general we aren't there at the end.  His poise ad composure at the end and on that last play were just phenomenal especially for a freshman.  His knock down shooting earlier in the game was great.  He has the tools to be a special player and he rarely forces anything and when he does it's like a long jumper that's a little too early in the shot clock for my tastes which is a pretty minor transgression.  Dlo is great but Jordan is the stabilizing force on this team.

I love that we pulled out a road win without anyone playing particularly amazing though.

Dom should get credited for restraining himself from punching Edwin. After SH took the lead late in  game Dom was called for traveling and Edwin had the gall to celebrate in Dom's vision. Dom then made a motion like he was going to punch him. Not sure if anyone else caught this but it happened.

I think Harrison and Mike Rice need to take Dom to their "quiet place" in the off season. Dom is a very angry young man.

Jordan for the play where he blew by Sina and slammed it, and for the pass to CO to pull out the victory.  Two amazing plays.

He gets away (or tries to) with some nice personic stunt nearly every game. One day he's not going to get away with it and its going to cost us something. It's hard to believe that Coach No Facial Hair Don't be Late For Dinner Stop Rolling Your Eyes lets him get away with so much nonsense.

True.  But from about the 6 minute mark till that last possession he was lousy, even for a freshmen. He was out of control.  Bad shots, bad turnovers, and confusion and a terrible decision going under a screen that left the slow SH guard free for a wide open three.

Jordan is head and shoulders the best player on our team when it comes to going over screens.  It's not even close.  As for the offense, you have to realize that they packed that zone really tight and the wing on Dom's  side was playing more like  a spy in a football game against a running QB  (that's for you Moose and Amaseinyourface).  Jordan's read of Edwin's defense on that last play was incredible.  Edwin took like 3 steps forward to thwart a drive by Jordan while Jordan looked off the other defender to Sampson and then saw the opening Edwin left and delivered a ridiculous pass.

What I'd like to see going forward in that situation is a lineup of Jordan-Harrison-Greene-Hooper-Sampson/Obekpa.  Overload one side with Hooper and Harrison camping out on the three point line, have Greene camping out on the other with Jordan at the top of the key.  High ball screen by the Sampson/Obekpa,  and  pick your poison.

I went with Obekpa for his clutch free throw at the end if the game. SJU on general was clutch with there free throws and that helped them stay in the game. I believe they missed a total of 3 with one of them vein on purpose. In general their free throw has been improving bit they have been clutch as of late. It is also nice to see that it wasn't Harrison or Jordan making clutch shots.
