40 year old man and 30 year old woman found dead.  Family fighting in the streets in North Philadelphia.  Take a close look at what school and # on the jerseys they are wearing.

My prayers go out to Rysheed and his family....and I pray this isn't what it looks like.

Just read that Philly police are calling it a murder-suicide.

apparently Rysheed tweeted his Aunt was killed. what this kid has gone through this year has been brutal for any human being to deal with. Any thing he gives the team is gravy, probably the only time he finds peace is on the court.

We all get wrapped on what is going on the court and what we believe should be happening. The coaches however have to deal with the other reality on what is going on with these kids personal lives. Now wonder he struggled in the beginning of the year, tough kid.

Prayers go out to the family!
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

My heart  goes out for the kid. He has been dealt a tough hand of cards for sure.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

If I were coach, I would consider making arrangements so the entire team could attend the services.

Something the St. John's community does better than just about any other.  Be strong, Rysheed, we are all behind you.

That's absolutely awful.    If any of the guys on the team read the boards, just let him know that all the st johns fans will have him in their prayers.

It's fun to bs about basketball, and every player gets criticized on here at one point or another.   And its cool to project who is a future pro, or is a great college player right now.   But situations like this provide a reality check.   Anybody who is going to college and playing the sport they love has already succeeded.     When you throw in the other weight some of the guys are carrying around on their shoulders?  Wow.   It's just really impressive how they hold it together and conduct themselves.

Messed up...Be strong although it is hard.  Life will get better.  You have a great future ahead of you but keep that past in your heart.

That's why coaching and mentoring can be such a positive force in a young man's life.  Props to you and others like you that help the youth of America, day in...day out.

Exactly. If I had to guess, the vast majority of us are white guys who grew up in solid middle-class or upper-middle-class households. We're smart enough and have lived long enough to know that there are a lot of kids who grow up in situations like the guys you mentioned, but unless we've lived it, we really have no clue about the depth of the situations -- especially emotionally.

A number of Johnnies have lost people close to them and could be of good counsel. Sir'Dominic Pointer lost a cousin in a shooting. Greene lost one of his closest friends in a shooting. Christian Jones lost two good friends in the course of two weeks last year.
