We embarrassed ourselves out there tonight. Terrible effort.  Lavin didn't coach a good game either. Bad lineups, we don't press enough, our guys played with no guts.  How do we let Reynolds get 16 rebounds and the PG get 10 assists?  We crapped the bed.  They didn't wnt it and played like pu$$ies...

Wow I think we should send someone to PA to make sure MCNPA is ok. When he starts to lose hope....
Not sure why everyone is going crazy, they play ver good D and we struggle on offense. Team played hard. We can't shoot. Those of us that watched the game saw the stat of what their D did to Cotton and Durham. If Harrison struggles who else can hit an outside shot? Our starting two guard hasn't scored 10 points in a game in about 2 months, Jordan's jumper is a work in progress and none of our three's can shoot threes which is pretty ironic.

Yesterday wasn't the killer, it was some of the early losses.

Did you want to discuss the first DePaul game then? What did you expect to be discussed this morning? The Crimean War? The hotly contested election of 1876? Tilden was robbed.

No I understand, the only thing I have an issue with is the Schizophrenic identity on this board. I have been mentioning that despite how well we have been playing that those early season Lavin induced lineup craziness could come back to haunt us. This thought was shouted down with "why worry about that, just enjoy the ride". Then we lose to two teams that are better than us and even MCNPA is about to commit Hari Kari.

The last two losses would have been acceptable had we played better ealy. You shocked we lost these two games?

I'm rarely shocked when they lose. I'm shocked that they were so uninspired last night. I wasn't shocked that Lavin had no answers and reverted to his deer in the headlights no clue shuffling players out willy nilly try and catch lightning in a bottle style of coaching. I'm surprised that he chose to play the game without his best players on the floor. Starting Branch. Why. Benching Obekpa. Why. I thought that lesson had penetrated his thick skull.

Roster construction, as noted, is core issue.

What's wrong with the roster exactly? We have an NBA prospect at PG, one of the better shooting guards in SJU history at the two, an NBA prospect prototypical SF at the three, a PF who allegedly could start for the Jazz right now, and an NBA prospect shot blocking machine at center. We have two competent back up guards, two of the best three point shooters Lavin has ever seen for spot duty, a big dumb back up center in GGA, and a Cosco in a pear tree. There's nothing wrong with the roster - this is one of the more talented teams SJU has had since I've been watching basketball. If your point is that some of the players have shortcomings, name some perfect ones and explain why they'd want to come play college basketball in Jamaica. How many perfect players does Xavier have? What's perfect about that fat slob Stainbrook? The best looking part of his game are his tits.

This fish is rotting from the airhead down. How much more evidence do you need.

Certainly not minimizing the work of the head coach in making this group work. As my posts historically indicate, I have always had concerns about his strategic, in game capability.

WSJU, why focus on extremes? There are many grounded posters who can view things  fairly and objectively. You are not going to change folks on far right or left sides of the equation. All in all, this is probably going to be a disappointing year, falling short of Lav's stated goal of Tourney participation. He will hopefully be judged accordingly if that occurs.

I guess my point is some of us criticized what was going on in the beginning and it was more than fair criticism. While I enjoyed the hot streak, it did not exonerate Lavin from his early season Dr Frankenstein act that was a major reason for the struggles. Yes he gets the credit for the turnaround, but the early season happened, it does not get wiped away. Truthfully, Lavin will never be my ideal coach, so there will always be something he does that I don't agree with, but I do not put these last two losses on him at all. Unless you want to get on him for not recruiting kids who can hit an occasional jumper. Which is a legit gripe.

Sanchez and Jordan only ones who played with any heart

Did Sanchez' heart slip out of his chest last night in the 2nd half.  When the game was on the line the guy was terrible on both sides of the ball.  He played one good half and everyone wants to crown him king.  Sanchez kills this team on the defensive end along with his buddy Branch.  Set a screen and those guys will run to the locker room.  Both just absolutely clueless.

Biggest myth about this underachieving team is its depth.  This team has absolutely no depth its just that the king of hype hyped the heck out of every player he recruited when maybe a total of 5 guys on this team actually have game.

And where is tool I was arguing with in here about how Harrison was not a leader of this team.  Where you at buddy???????

What is it you are looking for, complete agreement from everyone that you were right on your countless posts about Sanchez & Branch.  Will you feel vindicated & get a bump in your pants if we all thank you? If that would do the trick, "Thanks" Most of us realize the deficiencies of the team & staff, so no need to beat the dead horse further. Most folks here do pull for the team however, net of a few on the fringe with their own agenda.

You know my feeling on Lavin, but it is hard to look inspired when you can't score. They took away penetration and Harrison was guarded well and off.  We are a bad shooting team and Xavier played to that deficiency.

Nothing is wrong with the roster construction, but just because we have NBA "prospects" doesn't mean we should be winning every game by 10. A prospect is the possibility of "future" success, not today. We are a poor shooting and rebounding team , NBA prospects and all. This past month, we shot the ball better but Xavier is a bad match up for us. They packed in the zone and forced us to take jump shots and we took the bait. We settled for jump shots instead of driving the ball to the basket, which we are deficient at as well, NBA prospects and all. As fans we need not forget the deficiencies of the team and get so high when we perform well, and not get so low when those deficiencies causes us to perform poorly. Let's hope we run the table and get to the BE tournament finals.

Paultzman bro, I know I was right about everything no need for me to get vindication by you all admitting because I know it is true.  Anyone that has argued Branch is a good basketball player or that the ball moves better with him on the floor is just an idiot.

But the main reason I come by here is to see all the cool tweets by Zach and the alumni that you can only find in the jungle thanks to you.  Thanks bud

I'm surprised that he chose to play the game without his best players on the floor. Starting Branch. Why. Benching Obekpa. Why. I thought that lesson had penetrated his thick skull.

I can't justify not starting Jordan, as you say, it appeared that was a lesson already learned.   But at the end of the night Jordan had played 30mins and had 4 fouls.   How much more could he have played?   Do we win this game if Jordan plays 3 more mins at the expense of Branch?
I don't think "we" do.
I fu$7ing hate Lavin.   Truthfully.   I think he's a fraud, and is only interested in being the face of the program and not in getting his hands dirty in the nuances of teaching and coaching.   I also think he's either become lazy on the recruiting trail or has made an incredibly misguided tactical decision to ignore this class in favor of 2015.

But we didn't lose last night because of Lavin's in-game coaching.  I am quite sure of that.
His best players played the most minutes, and there was no sight of the scrubs, walkons, or token white-guys who ate up minutes at the expense of victories earlier this season.    And while I can't read minds, it didn't surprise me that he pulled Obekpa after Shitstainbrook scored 8pts in the first 3mins.   I would've done the same thing.
Should Obekpa have been reinserted earlier, and given a chance to redeem himself?  Yea, I think so.   Especially when Xavier started playing volleyball with offensive rebounds.   But he was at least partially hurt, he played no defense to start the game, and then when he came in later he committed a turnover and shot a 22foot jumper.   I can't blame Lavin for not giving CO 30 mins last night.

If Lavin is to be faulted for last night's game it should be for the lack of development over the course of the season.
The aspects of the game that can be drilled-ad naseum in practice... like guarding the pick and roll, moving without the ball, and setting proper screens .. they look like shit.   And that's a problem for which Lavin should be held accountable.
But nothing he did in-game last night cost us a win.

I'm tired of defending Branch, but the truth is the guy is not nearly as bad as most of you make him out to be.  Of course he's not perfect.
But guess what?   Jordan and Harrison can't play 40mins and we have no sf to speak of because Dom is a non-factor on most nights.

For a backup pg, Branch is just fine.  But more importantlyt, he's better than the other options we have.   It's irrelevant that the guy doesnt play like a top50 recruit... he's still better than Greene or Pointer handling the point, so he needs to play.

Some guys want to fire him before the Depaul game.  i want him to get his contract extension which he deserves.  He has done a good job and the program is moving in the right direction.  He doesn't shoot the foul shots.  He isn't responsible for the defensive lapses in the paint.  The kids seem to love him.  You guys have unrealistic expectations.  Rome wasn't built in a day.  He's not perfect.  Some guys want perfection.

Are we better off with Lavin than with Norm?,  Yes. Is Lavin a good coach, as it pertains to having his team fundamentally sound and playing smart basketball?  Not that I can see, but he somewhat offsets this by recruiting talented, athletically superior kids. Last night, Xavier played us as well as any team this year, and I don't buy that the kids didn't put forth a great effort to win, they just got outplayed by a team that matched up very well against them.

We were supposed to get over the hump this year, and unless the team puts together a string of not less than 4 consecutive wins, we will miss the ncaa tourney yet again.  While I'm not willing to write the obituary for this year yet, I also think it's silly to advocate for lavin's contract extension following the most deflating loss of the year.

Next to no one expected perfection or blames him for missed foul shots.
But in year 4, with a team full of recruits that the rest of the conference envies, they shouldn't be in the NIT.    If you want to say coach deserves more time and people shouldn't call for his firing, OK, that's a reasonable position.    But don't say the expectations are unrealistic.   Because they're not.   A tournament birth was an entirely reasonable bottom-line.

I'm rarely shocked when they lose. I'm shocked that they were so uninspired last night. I can't believe some are questioning why Jordan didn't start. We're lucky Jordan even played let alone start. How soon we forget there are bigger things than a basketball game. Jordan seemed to play well under the circumstances so he started him the second half, as you stated, he ended up playing 30 minutes, end of discussion.

That's right, Brandon, blame the fans.  The only thing major conference about the team is the ticket prices.  This team has been mid major hiding in a major conference since the early Jarvis years.

Par for the course though, he is the head coach. Honestly he got absolved for his early season struggle quickly enough, so he is now on the hook for the two most recent losses. Truthfully I don't blame him for the last two personally, but think he was a huge reason, maybe the primary reason we are in the spot we are in right now.

As it should be, last I looked, there are still games to be played. We can still realistically make the tournament, let the season play out.

Absolutely agree.  Our goals are still achievable.
