I wish Phil Greene well. Loyola or Illinois-Chicago would be more appropriate fits for him. He could average 13/14 per game in one of those shit leagues.

+1.  We always get to see our players in the tourney before they graduate.  Just usually with other teams.

Baldi, what makes you think Greene would help another program get to the tournament? He shat the bed against Prov on his own court, much like he did in every big game we had since he got here. He played to the best of his ability, and I wish him well, but unless the competition is really weak, and so weak that they just leave him wide open, I can't think of any other way for him to contribute to a team. He doesn't put other players in a position to score. He doesn't stop the ball on d, and he doesn't go to the basket like an upperclassman should.

In terms of continuity, this is upsetting. You don't build a program by replacing several sophs and juniors with projects and jucos. This is a strong sign that Lavin is done here, and after watching the way he deflected blame for the last two seasons, I've had enough. He is garbage.

I mean I am as concerned for the programs state as any but could this be as simple as the staff finally realizing branch is valuable and telling Phil he will be the 4th guard on the totem pole AND [mason/fill in transfer here] and Dom  and jones will be getting primary time at 3/4 when not in a three guard lineup?

And then perhaps we were looking at Obekpa the wrong way?  Greenes departure made Obekpa prefer to transfer bc his best buddy is gone rather than the reverse (which would make more sense to me)?

Be a lot more comfortable about this if we heard a couple transfers in to fit the pieces together.

Working with a legit coach for a year will do wonders. Has any player improved under Lavin?

i don't pretend to be an insider...but, seriously doubt that the staff had the forethought to tell him that he will lose PT...honestly, PT changes like the wind so don't think they even know...he either figured it out for himself or there is other stuff going on that we are not privy to...

of the 4 departures to date, this is probably the most perplexing ans troubling (again, with an outsider's view only) as I would have guessed that Phil was a Lavin supporter (just seemed to be a team 1st guy) and was getting more PT and shots than he deserved...

as others have stated, perhaps another guard is incoming and he saw writing on the wall...that I could accept...if, otoh, he is leaving because of a rift would be troubling for me - given what I have noted above

A 3 year starter is leaving and it could be because the staff "finally realized" that Greene should be playing elsewhere? If that's the case, it fits their style of not having a plan of any kind.

I think if Greene was used correctly as a spot up three point shooter he would have beena an asset next year. Everyone knows I was not a big Greene fan but it was really the way Lavin used him. With all that being said this would be the most bizarre transfer I have ever seen. Guy who plays more than his ability would normally allow transfers from a depleted team before his senior season??? Something weid going on here.

At this point I would not be surprised if we have to shut the [program down. Harrison, Jordan, no one would surprise me if they leave at this point.

that said, it speaks volumes that this team has loyalty towards each other rather than the school and lavin.  i remember when DLo came back he said he came back b/c he loved his boys and b/c of the europe trip.  no mention of lavin...

That's an interesting turn of events.   That pretty much eliminates any excuse about wanting to be closer to home or looking for a special post-graduate program.           Just wanted away from Lavin/SJU

It might be  a good fit as apparently they never play defense.
