Not only did Ollie overcome the pathetic academic penalties, and mass exodus that Calhoun left for him, but he proved beyond any doubt that he is not only a terrific coach, but a legend in his own time. Ollie used to kill STJ. He was never the go to guy on any of those Uconn teams, but was so steady, and smart.

Mullin has an incredibly high IQ for the game. Perhaps he is exactly what we need to get back to prominence.

Pros:

He's was an incredibly savvy player, and he can share that knowledge with his players
He understands the NBA game, as a former player, and GM
He's not afraid of the media in NY.

Cons:

No experience

I don't think I care anymore that he has no experience.

There is a lot to be said by a former Husky and NBA player being successful as a College BB Coach.. Ollie earned respect from nearly everyone over his playing career and now in his Coaching Career..

It's amazing to me that UCONN pulled another NCAA  Championship out of a very good but, nor a great season, until the Tournament. Just like they did with the Kemba Walker Team a few years ago. AMAZING.

iF any remote possibility exists for MARK jACKSON to come here now or, whenever Lavin Leaves, it should be seriously considered..

And, pls don't make any comments about him not having College Coaching experience this time. Before Lavin was hired, many talked of Mark as NORM'S replacement but, too many skoffed at his alleged lack of experience and recruiting.. NONSENSE..

Cons:   He has never recruited a single player or coached anyone to do anything.

Let Mullin become an assistant for 2 years, like Ollie did, and get a feel for the job.   Then, I would have no problem letting him take over as HC at SJU.

But all other things being equal, I'd rather select a young up and coming coach who is hungry to be successful.   Not someone who can rest on their laurels and count their millions.

I would guarantee one thing if Mullin were the coach. He would recruit more shooters in a year or 2 than this program has seen in the last 20 years.

Understood fun, but it's been a long time since Mullin earned an NBA salary, and current net worth is just a snap shot of a point in time.  Ask Curt Schilling how his $50mm+ net worth circa 2010 is helping him now.  Point is, being offered several million a year to coach at your alma mater might entice Mullin, even if he doesn't need the money to pay his bills.

Probably, but having miserably failed expectations is what being a SJU fan is all about, right??

I actually had Lapchick in there first and the changed it because I didn't think anyone would remember who he was. Comedy is tragedy plus time but not that much.

When it comes to SJU, I cannot apply logic to my fanatical expectations, try as I might.  Same for the Mets, which means I'm pretty pissed off 3/4's of the year.

Not to take away form Ollie did at all, but he didn't exactly inherit a mess. He was left the core of a national championship team....kids that know what winning is.  Our kids have no clue.

There is not a player on the roster I wouldn't trade for Napier...Jordan included.

I bet Roscoe Smith feels like an idiot right about now.

True, but Ollie kept that team together last year in the face of the post-season suspension to come back this year as national champs.  We lose in the first game of the NIT and half our potential starters next year are gone.

When he took over he lost two players to the NVA in Drummond and Lamb and lost Oriakhi and Smith to transfer, that evidently is the definition of keeping it together?

Then two seasons into that he wins a NC with the core made up of kids he did not recruit.

Meanwhile Lavin coming off a 10-8 year, interesting the same as Ollie last year, isn't even being allowed to coach next year before he is deemed a failure.

Please, donĀ“t compare the Big East of last year with this year.
