2014-15 Season Predictions: Most Improved
« on: October 08, 2014, 03:09:07 PM »
For the purposes of this poll I'm only including returning players of some capacity.

My vote goes to Obekpa.  I think he improved as the season wore on, and the more basketball experience he gets under his belt the more he can let his physical tools shine.   I think we'll be relying on him a lot, so the opportunity will be there for him to take a big step forward.

I say Jorden . First he is the youngest and most players improve more between FR and SO seasons, as opposed to JR to SR seasons. I also feel he has the highest ceiling.

If it's not Jordan, we're going to the NIT.

I'm gonna go with Obekpa.  If he can be an offensive option for us, then he has made tremendous strides.  As for Jordan, I think he will improve but I don't think he had that far to go to becoming a very good pg.  If he becomes an elite pg, then it might be him.

Jordan.  Showed flashes of brilliance last year.  Should be more consistent.  Has the raw talent to be a first round pick, particularly if jumper becomes consistent.

Every one needs to be better. Obekpa has improved but still is not a difference maker. I don't care how many blocks he has, he needs to help us get stops. On offense he has to be able to make free throws and score and make easy baskets. He is going to play plenty. 10 points 7 rebounds would be great.
Pointer has to play smart. Also has to be put in situations to succeed. I think he is needed for us to be good.
Jordan maybe the second most overrated player in school history. He has talent but he has shown nothing to an nba team to get drafted. Would any of you draft a player who missed a playoff game because of a toothache?

Wooow, can I hear your expectations for him this season?

I put Jones but mostly because so many expect so little from him so it wont be hard to see him "improve". Me on the hand expects him to have a good season. I think Jordan will make the most noticeable improvement. More consistent jumper and D will be the obvious ones.

I think he is going to be good. You can not say he isn't talented. But he has done little here. He has family issues and I understand he is a person with feeings. I wish him well and hope things work out for him. But he has to produce. DJ Kennedy didnt have the easiest life and he produced.
I think we have Harrison and everyone else is a question mark including Lavin and the assisatants. No more excuses and no more potential .
This team could beat Duke and Syracuse and can lose to Robert Morris

There are more overrated players on our current team. You don't even have to go back farther than that.
Jordan had a fine freshman season. Not amazing, and not all league, but damn good. He made the all rookie team. IDK what you expected from a freshman, but he's clearly the most talented player on the team.

Let's see if after this season you're still singing the same tune.

Agree he is the most talented player on the team. But after 2 years he did not accomplish what Paris Horne did after 2 years. He is not a freshaman He is now a Junior. I expect him to dominate games and win. He hasn't done that yet.

Talk of either of Jordan or obekpa as draft choices are beyond absurd at this point.

He's the most talented player on the team as well as the most overrated, who you expect to dominate because having played one year in which he accomplished little - 10 ppg 3 rpg 3 apg - he's now a junior.

Astute analysis.

Jordan is not a junior unless he took an obscene amount of classes this summer.

This is a talking point which needs to be put to rest.   I wish we were that inconsistent, it would make for a more exciting season.  But the truth is we haven't shown that we can beat good teams.
We were 1-7 against Wisconsin Syracuse Nova xavier and Creighton last year.  Our 8 toughest games.

If we had a 20 win season but were 3-5 in those games, we probably would've made the tournament.
But we're consistently mediocre.
The notion that on a good day we can beat anyone, just isn't supported by what we've done the last two seasons.  We don't surprise good teams in big games.

Also, Tony, we know that most of the team is full of question marks.  I think you're losing track of the question: who will be most improved.
The people voting for jordan aren't saying he's a finished product.    They just expect him to be significantly better than last season.

Don't forget, Sheed came into an upperclassmen-heavy team as the lone freshman. He struggled early on.

He came into his own the last 2 months of the season.

I think he'll play alot smarter and comfortable this year. He needs to sure up his shot and cut down on the bad fouls, and he has all the tools to be a star at this level.

The fact that he played with juniors and seniors was an advantage. If he played with freshman, we would have said he played with freshman, and given hims pass. Truth is, he had a fine freshman season. At times he was lost, and at other times he was great. Jordan went toe to toe with tennis, and Nova's guards. He has the ability. He needs the consistency now. He's the PG. It has to be his team, and everyone has to buy into that including our 3 other guards.

I made a mistake he is not a junior. Agree he has to be consistent. Not trying to knock him. Actually really like him. Just dont like that some of our players are considered bone heads (which they are at times- maybe to much of the time) when others are not bashed to the same level. I do like Jordan, must have been in bad mood last night. I have no hate towards him. However we have had so many highy rated players and have won so few games. I am tired of hearing about potential. I just want to win.
For us to be good. Jordan has to be all big east good. He can do that. Pointer has to play like a top 100 player that we recuited, He is a senior with plenty of experience. Hope he can do that. Obekpa has to be more solid then spectacular. I hope he can do that.
