I'm told 7-footer Joey De La Rosa will have eligibility beyond this season at St. John's.

Joey De La Rosa made his season debut for No. 20 St. John’s in Friday night’s 53-47 win over St. Mary’s.

The 6-foot-11 senior played 12 minutes and went scoreless but did notch one rebound and two blocks.

De La Rosa missed the first semester per NCAA rules after transferring from FIU.

He will have eligibility beyond this season, sources told SNY.tv. De La Rosa played the 2011-12 and 2012-13 and just 7 games in November 2013 at FIU.

Technically, he could apply for a redshirt year to get all of last year back in 2015-16. St. John’s has no official comment on the situation.

De La Rosa gives St. John’s some added size and shot-blocking down low to support junior Chris Obekpa.

There is no update on freshman Adonis De La Rosa, who is sitting out after being deemed a non-qualifier.

I thought Joey gave us a really good effort and good minutes. Adonis was on the bench last night. Maybe this means he's eligible too.

No, except for previous game, Adonis was on the bench. SJU still waiting for ruling.

So if he is a senior this season what will he be next season a double senior? Maybe ncaa is making up for giving only one year to Sanchez.

He could play as a grad student like God'sgift did.

I doubt it. The NCAA hates St.John's. We don't often make them or ourselves look good.

It was a very tough spot for Slim to debut and he contributed significantly to an unlikely comeback win.  An impressive initial outing despite his anemic stat line.  The game was not at all about offense anyways.   It was a defensive war waged by both teams and JDR didn't disappoint.

Joey should help against the likes of Josh Smith and Stainbrook

Tonight the only time the announcers mentioned him they claimed he got in the way of CO blocking a shot.

The fan shooting free throws from the crowd looked like he had absolutely no coordination. Delarosa didn't look any better.

Which means in can't be in on the offensive end late in games even if CO fouls out obviously because he will be the designated player to foul.
