Bench Decorum
« on: December 23, 2014, 02:22:03 AM »
I've observed inappropriate behavior from our bench at the end of this game and at the end of at least one other blowout victory.  I understand youthful exuberance and recognize the excitement they must feel in winning, being ranked and now frequently playing the role of pounder instead of their usual past role as poundee.

I would like the team to tone it down and display class and dignity at the end of victories.  Let's try to act like we've won games before.  The coaching staff needs to direct them as such.

Who among us could ever forget the behavior of Johnny Flynn and Co. in the waning moments of that a$$ whuppin they laid on us at the garden when they brought in there reserves at garbage time who were still better than our starters.

Let's seek to replicate the Ncaa appearances and deep runs of New York's former team - not their classlessness.

Disclaimer:  Granted this is nit-picking and I am old and stodgy.

Perhaps they can just fire up cigars on the bench when the game is in hand like the stodgy old class act Arnold Red Auerback!  ;)

I kind of agree with Carmine because I still get pissed when I think about that Syracuse game.  May that program (not the kids) burn in hell.

Our guys have been acting like that since they got here. When he's on SU he's an a-hole. When he's on STJ, he's our a-hole, but if you think SU is worse, you're delusional. We're worse if anything. You don't see their guys getting technical fouls night in, night out, do you? Our behavior last night is our behavior every night. Plain and simple.

Why should we act like we've been here before when we haven't?  Even the coaching staff - this is our most successful pre big east season this far in the lavin tenure. We aren't Duke or Kentucky or Kansas.  Why rain on their parade.  If they are getting it done on the court who cares.

I take offense with you lumping Lavin's sweatsuit issue in with the other mindless crap.   It's a real travesty!

I am not and have not complained, too much, about technicals nor overly "aggressive"? play.  I'm specifically talking about late game situations in which were pounding opponents and our players, particularly the starters that have been pulled, are in full celebration mode.  The coaching staff can and should address it.

I don't think "our behavior last night is our behavior every night" nor 'have they been acting like that since they got here'. I think it's new to this thus far very successful season.  I come from an era where class and respect for your opponent were commonplace.  Fred Biletnikoff would make the greatest touchdown catch you've ever seen and simply hand the ball to the official or nearly have his head taken off by a hard hit and would simply return to the huddle.

I want it all this season. The holy grail of college sports fandom.  Rankings, Ncaa tournament bids and yes - displaying class and dignity when blowing out opponents.

Last night an LBSU player (on the bench) was doing the Santonio Holmes jet dance after hitting some 3's.

I swear, some people sound like miseble sobs. Can't enjoy the 10-1 start? Always gotta bitch about something huh?
Yeah, in the beginning of the year I bitched about Lavins recruitment for next year, but now I'm saying forget next year until this season is over.  I'm enjoying the hell lout of this year.

So just continue to bitch and whine about the little crap, stay miserable.
And me and most here will continue to enjoy this season and smile upon them as they continue to shine.
This year has the potential to top 2011.

My apologies.  Some of us are capable of experiencing more than one emotion at a time.
I can be happy with the team about a win and still think Lavin is a fool for how he dresses.

Exactly like I said, gotta bitch about something.
Yeah, I'd rather him just take off the suit and coach. Me I'd coach in jeans a sweatshirt and my Timbs and not care wtf people think since they're not paying me.   Only thing that matters to me is wins.

Example: Would you rather a coach who wears Armani suits and can't get even to the nit, or a coach who dresses as a regular guy but can get you to the NC game of the ncaa.   I know who I'd pick.

another false dichotomy.   I suppose next your're going to ask me if I would rather have Norm or Lavin.
Other than ass-backwards West Virginia and their alcoholic-dbag Bob Huggins, we're the only school who's highest paid employee can't wear a suit and tie when he's on national tv.    It's not asking too much for Lavin to just do what every other coach does.   That's not going above and beyond, that's doing the bare minimum that is asked of everyone else in your profession.

Shame on Lou then for wearing his sweater and not a suit and tie.   Not gonna continue to argue this.
Just don't care what he wears, the bottom line to me is just win. That's all i care about.

Do you sit there and complain when our president doesn't have a tie on when he is on tv??? Once again the universities must not have a problem with you or he would be wearing a suit by now. It's time for you to move along on this stupid topic and worry about other things.

Why bother, he just needs something to complain about because the season is not a failure so far.
