Tulane - Player of the Game

SDP.  He plays basketball like Beltran played baseball, it looks effortless.

For 3+ seasons I've been hoping this team would start forcing steals like they did today.   Dom was a thief all game long.

Player of the game has to be Joey. I don't know how he made a free throw with that form.

He hustles and looks good on D. Too bad he is so bad offensively. That said, still a peasant suprise.

Sir with much Love.  7 steals! and a career scoring high. Way to close out the non-conference slate.

He held his own actually. Plays defense and hustles. He's a serviceable backup. His free throws are as dreadful as I've ever seen. They've got to work w him on that.

I hope you guys didn't pay for your seats on the Joey bandwagon.
He played better today than against SMC but you're drastically over rating his defense.  He's a liability whenever he's in the game.

He sticks to the role that he's been given, and there's definitely some value in that.  He doesn't try to do too much.  But I'm not sure he would make the roster of any other BE team.

That's the point though. He's knows his role, and today he played it well. As long as we don't have him on the line in an important game, we should be fine w his 5-8 minutes.

come on Desco, hes a 7 footer who doesn't trip over himself when he runs. I dont remember a play so far where he has been a liability.

Right, but us being able to survive and win with his 5+ mins, is different than saying he's surprised people with how good he is.
He's pretty much done the minimum a basketball player can be asked to do.
there are a lot of guys on this team who deserve credit, I'm just not ready to give JDR props for not crapping  his pants.

He was better today, but against St Marys Walden schooled him several times, and a few other times he switched into a guard and got blown away too.

He's been what I expected.  Which isn't to say he doesnt have a role or we don't need him. We do.
But he hasn't been a surprise.
Other guys are playing high above expectations.

He's a walk on. After losing Keith Thomas and his brother, Joey is a big help. That's the only reason people are excited.

He's a serviceable backup. His free throws are as dreadful as I've ever seen. They've got to work w him on that.

I was analyzing his FT form at the game today.  His biggest problem is that he rises up on his tip toes with the ball still in his hands, compromising his balance and  all but eliminating his chance to bend his knees, then he hitches the ball and shoots.  He needs to stay down and only go up on his toes once the ball is released.

JoeyD can give you a serviceable 2-4/half, body is huge, rebounding hands ok, eats space.  Too bad about his FT  form cause he will get fouled, needs to go to something more unusual, perhaps a jumper or underhand.  Needs to relax, loosen up, tension level is ridiculous, he knows he will miss. A creative coach could get him to 40-50 percent which would be a big improvement.  1/2 the kids in CYO shoot FTs better than this and they are coached by halfdrunk KofC guys.
