At what point does Lavin deserve that extension?
If he can get Diallo and Sampson I'd be inclined to give it
If he doesn't ?
I'd like to see what players by then have verballed. God I hate that I have to say these things and maybe posters are poking just to get a rise out of others. But if you starting 5 next year is: C- Chris PF- Jones SF- Myles SG- Felix PG- I don't even know With a bench of ADR, JDR, Amar, Doughty and Jay Henderson That is NOT good.
stating that starting 5 gets the same rise out of people. Not happening

Not looking to get into a 15 page debate- Does anyone really think that is our team next year?

As of right now it is.  If we strike it rich with Sampson, Diallo and a Mussini and Freeman yes its a helluva lot better.  Then we just hope it doesn't take 4 years to get back to the top and they pick up the match up zone quicker.  And there is less drama then some of the recent recruits.

I want to enjoy the season.  I am enjoying the season.  But anyone who thinks the results of this season are the only factor for an extension are lost.  Now lets reverse what we did to start last year's Big East slate.

The problem is that there's very little room for error now with this recruiting class.   If not Sampson and Diallo, then there's a big big dropoff.
But I do think that there's an increasing chance that Jordan returns and/or Obekpa returns.    I'd be surprised if both are here, but it would no longer shock me if one of them returns for next season.
I also want to see how Lavin prepares the team and coaches during conference play.    But as I said somewhere else, it's no longer an absurd to think Lavin returns.   He's doing everything to deserve an extension, he just has to keep it up.

He can sign the 2 top recruit  left on the board and the team will still suck for years to come

Although I would agree things are looking VERY bleak.

I do still hold out hope that Lavin can round out this recruiting class. The de-commit, transfer, JUCO, and 5th year transfer games will be absolutely essential. It sucks it came to this, but that's where we stand. I should note that I'm still 50/50 on extension. Before the season I was VERY anti-Lavin, and after Briscoe chose UK, I was ready to cut the cord.

Anyone think if Briscoe held out til Spring we would be in good shape with him?

Next year is a problem.  But disagree Baldi that we will suck for "years to come" based on what the current landscape looks like.  If he hits on a couple of the big remaining recruits, and gets some older JUCOs/transfers, we can be pretty decent next year and good the following year.  A big "if" at this point, I agree, which is why I just try to enjoy this year and ignore what looks like bad news next season.

We all keep saying the same things. However, I think everyone who was anti Lavin never thought we would be this good. I don't think we peaked. I think we stay ranked in the 10/15 team in the country all year. Someone is going to want to be the next Harrsion. Someone is going to want to be the next Pointer. Margin is slim but think we have this season is setting up perfectly. We are going to be on the covers of a lot of news papers. Lavin is going to be everywhere. Players are going to come.

That is what I'm holding out hope for Tony - that the success on the court has a domino effect.

WASJU - I'm enjoying the hell out of the season. Been to a handful of games and plan on going to more with friends and family. It's been awesome. But you can pull for and enjoy this group and still be concerned about what the team is going to look like next year. Not mutually exclusive.

Sadly too many people don't realize this.

Assuming all that is true Tony, there aren't that many players left who are undecided.   That's a big issue.
I don't disagree that how we play this season could impress a lot of recruits.

And of course PR and Moose are right that rooting for this team and worrying about next season aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm lost.

We're off to the best start since 1985 and have the highest ranking (#15) since...a long time ago and we're 40% into the season. If the team doesn't completely fall off a cliff in conference play, the only way Hollywood isn't coming back is if he leaves on his own volition.

If he dances, next years recruits could be Bugs Bunny and Donald Duck and he's returning.  Wake up and smell the wins people!
